OMG !!!! That Sinningia pusilla is soooo adorable !!!!!! Olaf you are not a good influence !!!! LOL
December Photos and Chit Chat
Thanks! :)
Well, and to add insult to injury, I have about four dozen baby plants of Sinningia pusilla coming up and they will all need new homes down the line... LOL
Olaf
That is sooo tiny !!!! No actually tiny is an understatement that is minute. Sooo adorable !!!
Olaf, that is one really cute sinningia. I'll be willing to adopt one. But will have to wait until spring. Right now it's way too cold. It would probably freeze to death.
Thanks everyone! :)
There are plenty of babies for everybody. Come Spring, they are definitely going to be blooming size. Some may even be in their second growth cycle.
There are actually two plants in this little pot... :)
Thanks for the tip about pushing s pusilla growth by transplanting them! I did that with my small bunch of seedlings yesterday ! This reminds me of disturbing root growth with Pansies. I did that for years when growing Pansies for exhibition for myself or people I worked for. I have had a lot of fun growing for exhibition over the years. My wife's and my love to everybody for this new year! Lee Sherwood McDonald
A happy and blessed new year to everybody! :)
The "root tickling" works with pretty much all Gesneriad seedlings. Also, early and frequent repotting speeds up the growth of the seedlings. Another way to speed up growth is also an extremely tedious one... After the seedling has developed about three to four pairs of true leaves, remove the tiny cotyledons and lower leaves leaving jut the top two pairs. Then pot the seedling a little deeper with the leaves just above the mix. It's tedious but you can watch the seedlings take off like Kudzu...
Olaf
Well, looks like yet another use for surgical instruments.
Or, since the situation calls for expert equipment, anything from a real fine crochet hook to a bamboo skewer works very well... :)
Wow, Jan! Those are beautiful, as your speciosas always are!
Hi Jan...it's been a long time my friend!! I still have a little beaded violet sitting in my kitchen window......think of you often when I look at it!
Jan, that is one AWESOME bloom. I'm definitly adding that one to my list. It looks like a rose. So beautiful!!!
So beautiful Sister Jan! Happy New Year to all!
Lynn
I'm late again as usual!
what a nice compliment ,thank you Olaf
Melanie,Nice to see you around the garden again.Hope your well? I was thinking about you with the awful storms that went your way awhile back.
The beaded violet,I'm glad you girls/guys liked them.I need to make myself one!
Hi Eileen, girl your getting the gessie addiction, welcome to the club.LOL.Rob's sells Sinn.speciosa Mystique Double Pink but I have leaves down, with luck I'll have babies by spring.D-mail me if you would like a sin sp Elizabeth.I think our weather is ok to send.
Thank you sista Lynn ^_^
jannich, I would love a sin sp Elizabeth, but the weather is very cold here. It's been down to the low 40s. It's supposed to warm up to the 60s. I can't wait. This cold weather is doing a number on my arthritis. I'll send you a Dmail.
Y'all finally did it! I've been bitten by the "Trailing Violet Bug"... LOL
Now, does anyone here grow miniature and the smaller semi trailers? The smaller, the better.
I currently grow only one, 'Lil' Runaround', which hasn't bloomed for me yet but is otherwise the most adorable, little thing in the world... :)
I also like the "unkempt", multi crowned look of regular miniature Violets. I don't mind them suckering at all.
If anyone would be so kind and share some leaves or suckers with me come Spring, that would be greatly appreciated!
I have tons of Sinningias, Kohlerias, Begonias and other plants to trade...
Olaf
Olaf, I have a few mini trailers. They are babies from leaves in a fall RR. If they are big enough by April or May, I will send you leaves of all that I have. I've sent you a Dmail.
Hello everyone !!! I hope that all of you are having a wonderful new year. I got my 4 Sinningias that I had ordered from Kartuz. They came in yesterday. Adorable little things and one in bud. It should be the white one. I can't wait for them to bloom. I've got a question though. Should I do bottled water or can I use tap water like I do with the violets and begonias?? Now I need to look at some more miniature begonias. This addiction is full on.... but I'm loving it.
Oh cool! You'll love your Sinningias!
I use Chicago city water (pH 7.8-8.5) that I let sit over night on all my plants to get rid of most of the Chlorine and to get the water to room temperature.
They are pretty easy going plants and take pretty much the same care as Violets.
I love the look of trailers, I guess I like 'em messy, too. Anyone recommend any variegated mini trailers?
Champagne Pink is gorgeous.
Oh, Champagne Pink IS GORGEOUS!!! I managed to kill mine "and" Sister Lynn's so if anyone has it and would trade it will go to Lynn first...would love to get two so both can be replaced :) PLEASE...
Connie
Hi Celene,
Ramblin' Silver is a nice variegated semi-mini trailer. Definitely qualifies as a messy plant. My mother plant produces a great many new crowns in a short period of time. I have a number of plants that I have started from the original. Make a note for the Spring and I will be happy to send you one. A bit too cold here right now to try it.
Earle
Stunning Earle.
LOL Sister Connie...I killed my big beautiful Champagne Pink all by myself! I opened a North window in the plant room to get a little air and forgot till two days later.A lot of my favorites did not survive that.......bad girl.
Lynn
Earle, your Ramblin' Silver is gorgeous. I love the leaves. I wouldn't care if it bloomed or not. The leaves make up for flowers.
Another beauty to add to my list.
Earle, I love the foliage on that plant, that's exactly what I was thinking of!
Hi Celene,
Just drop me a note when the temps warm up and I will be happy to send you one.
Earle
