Olaf, you are just terrible!! You are feeding another addiction!! Just beautiful!! I got my seeds planted tonight, maybe I'll have something as pretty as yours.
Melanie
Oh, she's so pretty! And I agree with Melanie. Olaf, you certainly are feeding our addiction. LOL
Thanks everyone!
Well, you know, I'm trying my best to be a plant pusher... LOL
And Roly: Your Violet is beautiful! :)
Olaf
Oh, and you know that most Sinningias LOVE T5 light. So do Kohlerias...
Just saying... LOL
Olaf
I love the T5 lights...what do you think of LED's? I use aquarium lights that I can get wholesale from work, it makes the cost of the T5's and LED's somewhat less painful.
Well, the experts say that LED lights may need a little time to be perfected but look very promising. I read an article on this subject a while back and that's what the overall opinion was.
Also, they are still extremely expensive, particularly if you need lots of them.
On the other hand, you can't beat LEDs when it comes to power consumption and effectiveness.
LEDs also don't really get hot. Warm maybe but not hot. This can be a good thing as well as a bad thing since a lot of people rely on the heat produced by the lights...
Right now, T5 seems to be a good compromise, particularly when you set up a new shelf.
Retrofitting old shelves can be a bit trickier because there is a significant difference between the quality of light in the old T12/T8 tubes and the new, high output T5 tubes.
The wonderful thing about T5s is that they don't buzz and that they switch on instantly like a light bulb.
For some plants, T5 light is just too intense but I have successfully grown Violets, Sinningias, Kohlerias and a whole array of other Gessies under these lights.
On a lot of Kohlerias, the foliage turns a very dark, deep purple that almost looks black and Sinningias and Kohlerias stay extremely compact. The few Violets that I tried, to my surprise, didn't mind the intense light at all.
The best thing about these T5s is that I can connect up to 4 in row if I want more light. The price is very decent for what I've found and if I want to have more light all I have to do is order some more. I'm looking forward to getting my Sinningias ordered and receive my begonias as well. My room will be a jungle in no time. I was thinking about those vertical hanging planters for my walls to put in bromeliads and hoyas. Talk about green room...LOL
Ok so it's official. I will be getting Sinningias come spring. I placed my order and sent payment info. Here is what I'm getting.

Well, to my defense: I'm just an enabler among enablers... LOL
Thanks! And Happy Holidays right back at you! :)
I'll second that opinion Eileen!! LOL!!
Merry Christmas to all!!
You guys ARE a bunch of enablers, with a fine holiday spirit. My baby strep "Nightmare" is blooming for the first time, that's my Christmas present :)
