Hi everyone! Wishing all a happy holiday season with little to no stress. With the cooler temps in the house, the plants are fine but not growing actively especially the episcias and they all need some work but this time of the year there are too many other things to do.

Lynn, the violets I sent were so small and you did so well growing them.

Now, if I could only grow Episcias half as well as you do...

Episcia 'Silver Sheen'. That's as good as they get for me...

The epicias are all beautiful. My continue to be leggy. They are under lights and get 10 hours of light. I just changed the bulbs to 1 growlight, and 1 regular one in each fixture. Hope this helps them.

Chicago, IL(Zone 6a)

You can roll up leggy Episcias just like you would a Kohleria. That makes them look like a million bucks with very little effort. :)

Sinningia pusilla. Needs a clean up, doesn't she? LOL I'm waiting for those two pods to ripen and will then divide the seeds into portions. I have four or five muscicola and three or four pusilla pods. That should be enough for everybody. :)

Sinningia 'Playful Porpoises' bloomed today.
I love the pink of 'Freida'.

Hello Everyone I have a few s. pusilla seedlings just starting to bloom, I have not grown them in years. I had them and gave away many for years and years. I missed them and now I have them back!! I have always thought that a well displayed small terrarium, filled with the wee ones,in Botanical and public gardens would bring a lot of attention. Now, any ladies reading this rambling of a certified Lunatic take the following in the spirit intended. I would slap my mother if some one could send me or sell me some of the white strain of s.Pusilla It may be known as s. Pusilla"White Sprite" I know I had it once upon a time and I believe I got it fron Lindon Lyons in the mid 1970's What a dear and fascinating fellow he was I miss him a great deal.I wish everyone a loving and joy filled holiday season!! Yes, its known as S. pusilla 'White Sprite'.

As soon as I get a pod on mine, I can send you some seeds. So far, she has been a bit stubborn making buds... :)

I just LOVE 'Mighty Mouse'!

Maria, we really need to tell the world what they're missing out on not growing this tiny, pretty weed!!! :)

Akron, OH(Zone 5a)

Thanks Olaf, it's truly the cutest little thing and so easy to grow. I just wish she bloomed more often for me which is like once a year.... maybe lack of fertilizer? which means none lately, just fresh soil when repotting. Lynn, I think BAD MOMMA title is all mine, hehe

Summerville, SC(Zone 8a)

Wow and Wow! Love the Sinningia!

Chicago, IL(Zone 6a)

Actually, micros don't need much fertilizer. I know growers who don't fertilize them at all except for giving them fresh mix when repotting.

I think that because 'Mighty Mouse' is suckering so much, there's just not much energy left for blooms.

In my experience, freshly divided clumps bloom the best and can actually be quite floriferous.

This is 'Mighty Mouse' this past June:

Do Gesneriads respond to root pruning? My Alsobia was declining rapidly only producing leaves so I cut off 1/3 of the roots before repotting and 2 weeks later it started producing buds like crazy.

Chicago, IL(Zone 6a)

That's a bit hard to generalize. Many of them certainly won't mind.

And the tuber:

Sinningia pusilla. They grow so fast once the tuber sprouts. Takes only a few weeks for the plant to flower.

Sinningia pusilla seedlings. They get their roots "tickled" every two weeks for the first eight weeks or so and they grow much faster this way. Then when I pot them up, I remove the tiny cotyledons and watch them take off...

Sinningia muscicola. One batch of seedlings from my own plant. Growing like the tiny little weeds they are... LOL

Gasp!!!!! Oh my that Kohleria 'Peridots Potlach' just takes my breath away!

Chicago, IL(Zone 6a)

It's a compact and vigorous grower and bloomer and a good rhizome maker. Definitely one for the Round Robin. :)

Kittrell, NC(Zone 7b)

Lynn, those two don't ever stop do they? lol!!! I have had the pleasure to meet Dave...he really is a sweetheart....even though he thinks streps are weeds. LOL!

Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

I've been away just a couple of days, while hubby paints my family room and kitchen. Look what I missed. Such a bundle of pretty blooms. They are so pretty. I think I am going to forget about epicia and become a fan of sinningia. The blooks are so pretty. My epicia just seem to be getting taller and sending out stolens. No blooms yet. I'm getting tired of cutting offs the stolens. I may just save a few for trading in the spring.
