This was the clearest pic that I took. Too bad that tree trunk is in the way.
DAILY BIRD PICS. VOL.422
can you make peanut butter pinecones in birdseed and put them inside a upside down feeder? I would put it on the tree but the tree rats would eat them before the birds do. The squirrels can't get to the upside down feeder anymore, the chain that was allowing them to get the suet broke so they can't reach it. So they can't get it. So do you think it would work?
Red...love that duck and your Mr. Blue is a beauty!
Shutterbug..Your birds are gorgeous and the background is to die for!
Elphaba...Wow...lucky you to get those shots of the wild turkeys showing their stuff!! Too bad they pick on the brown and the black ones. Nice WP shots too!
I'm not sure on the other shot but it doesn't look like a juvie Bald Eagle to me.
I was trying to get a shot of this Red-shouldered Hawk and DH (bless his heart) came riding up on his tractor!! This was as close as I could get before he flew off (the hawk, not DH)!!
how does this sound for a bird feeder recipie? I took lard, peanut butter and bird seed and put some chili powder in for good measure. I have a dish that will let me make roughly the size of the upside down feeder, hopefully it will work, gotta put it in the freezer tonight so it will get hard enough to put in there tomorrow.
Wonderful pictures Rose.
Geez Lily...I am so jealous that you can just go outside and get a pic of a Cormorant!!
Rose, thanks. This time of year I get to see more migrating water fowls. Come and spend some time with us down South.
Very nice pic. of the Mallards teddy!
Nice Bluebird, Red.
Elphaba, cool strut. I've never seen one strut before. At least their backend is worthy of looking at.
Dellrose, nice series but the Titmouse does it for me. I've never seen one and yours is just plain cute. Is it OK from a man to use the word "cute"?
Cormorants actually aren't bad looking birds, but Mallards are prettier and tastier.
I drove around the back roads today and came away with just one shot. I used to hunt pheasants with a gun, but I enjoy shooting them with my Canon even more. I just wish that one branch or weed hadn't been in the way.

Great shots everyone!
dellrose you can send your Titmice & Chickadees my way! lol
I love listening and watching to them both! :)
Nice ones Nan. Yesterday we also had experienced some snow flury, but it didn't stick. Tonite is going to be in the mid. 20's. Love those Blue Jays, the House Finches are increasing in number here too.
That is why I made that lard, peanut butter, and bird seed mixture, I was going to put it in the upside down feeder, but I changed my mind. I think I will put some of it on the tree in front, I think I will put a little on the tree and see if the squirrels will leave it alone. I read that chili powder is good for discouraging them and that is what I want to do, discourage them. My hubby had some hot sauce called sudden death and that did it, it did not kill them of course, but they were funny to watch, they would get a piece that had that on it and start to eat it and then they would close their eyes and make a face that you would have to see to believe, and it got to be that whenever they smelled that smell, they would go the other direction, the only problem with that is it is expensive and very hard to get so if the chili powder works I will stick with that, went out today and did not see one woodpecker, did not even hear one. Oh well, at least got a few good shots of ducks and the empty marina.
Rose, that Titmouse is absolutely gorgeous.
Nanny, I can't believe you're having snow. Nice shots.
Sorry, mnshutterbug, the word "cute" is reserved for use by females only. You'll have to find an alternative. Beautiful pheasant.
Lovely colours on the Mallard, teddy. Good luck with your recipes, but I do feel sorry for the poor little squirrels. That hot stuff must really burn their mouths.
Willie Wagtail waiting for an Osprey to badger.
That is why we use it. Squirrels have other things to eat & they can smell the pepper, so leave it alone.
Nice, Burd. That sure is a hefty looking gull.
All are wonderful shots folks. Love this thread.
Nice WW shot there Margaret!
Burd....really enjoy all your water birds!
Down in the 20's the last 2 nights here. At my house I only got about an inch that stuck. Up where DH works they had 3.8 inches and a town northeast of Indianapolis had 10 inches! The dog and I did get to enjoy a walk yesterday afternoon in the sunshine which was absent all last week due to rain!
Gardenpom, Like the blue jay. It's amazing all they will cram in their mouths. We have some that come back for more peanuts even though the bill is already full.
Nanny, does your Red-bellied pair fight? We had a pair Monday and they were going at it. The female was sure in a fighting mood because she fought with the female Flicker at the platform feeder, as well. It was crazy.
Nice shots everyone!
Burd, that flying merganser shot is stunning!
Mnshutter, love that pheasant. Glad you're shooting with the camera now.
Nanny, my house finches are gone and no gold finches yet, so enjoyed yours instead!
Margaret, Willie is wonderful! Nice shot.
Rose, totally feel your pain with the Red-shouldered hawk. Only got one shot of a white-winged junco before my Dad came crashing through the forest. He meant well though. You managed a beautiful shot anyway.
