DAILY BIRD PICS. VOL.422

Manzanita, OR(Zone 8b)

He spotted a bird closeby here as I stood about 10 ft. away from him but decided against it for some reason.

Beautiful shots everyone. Burd, I loved all of your photos, but the Sandhill Crane is my fav.

Duc, great as usual.

Rowlett, TX(Zone 8a)

The drought brought an unexpected visitor to my backyard birdbath yesterday -- a Harris Sparrow.

I really enjoy everyone's pictures. Especially the first one .... Chickadees are my favorite bird. :-)

In fact, the Chickadees in my yard are so chatty -- they'll talk to just anybody!

hey ducbucin, what do you put your peanut butter on to put it out for the birds? Being in CA, what can you put it on that it won't attract squirels?

Manzanita, OR(Zone 8b)

Loonie, the sparrow and dee are so cute.

Teddy, I have a homemade peanut butter/peanuts log but it's on our second floor deck and with two dogs watching for critters through the windows, we don't have a problem with the squirrels.

Marlton, NJ

Cute pics Carla! Congrats on the Harris Sparrow!

went out and got a few pinecones, going to try the peanut butter with the pine cones and rolled in bird seed. Do you put it in the freezer or refrigerator when you get done or just hang it out there? I am going to try to find out where I can put it that the squirrels won't get it. Any suggestions?

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

You just hang it out......Nope no suggestions about the squirrels.....they will eat it if they can get to it just like everything else.

Lakeview, OH

I picked up 4 of them but they are closed, other than putting them in the oven, is there an easy way to open them up? Can you put them in the microwave?

PERTH, Australia

Wonderful shots, everyone. Sorry I have nothing to share with you. Duc, you're getting some amazing shots of the hawk.

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Hi everyone. My two fav. ducks in the area. The Mallard drake and his mate. ^_^

Manzanita, OR(Zone 8b)

Teddy, I cook them in the oven about 45 minutes at 200 degrees. Be sure to put them on a cookie sheet covered by tin foil. Sure smells good in the house when you do this.

Red, great photo of your nuthatch.

Lily, enjoy the ducks. They sure are pretty when the sun shines on them.

I had another "lifer" yesterday-a Band-tailed Pigeon. Our local authority tells me just one or two are recorded in our county each year.

Teddy, I feel so bad about your squirrel situation. Because of our location and neighbourhod raptors, we rarely have squirrels. Most things I have read is to put up whole corn cobs in a location away from your bird feeders. When we saw one squirrel, we took that extra step, but then a couple days later it was gone, so really didn't need to bother. It has turned into a nice rat trap. I didn't know they could climb, but it made it handy for the Cooper's hawk to grab an easy meal.

Here is a Puff-breasted Junco. :)

Lots of good birds and pics. I hope to get that close to an eagle someday. Shot this Ring-necked duck this afternoon.

Beautiful shots Rose. That TP roll is really a fav. Gotta try that.

Really pretty duck Red.

Beautiful birds, ducks and raptors. Dellrose, you must spend more time cleaning your windows than I do taking pics. They sure don't appear taken thru a window. All of the following shots of mine were taken in my Amur Maple while it still had leaves. It was only a couple days after I took these pics that the bush went nude on me. So sad.

One more Harris. Quite a few of these around this fall.

those birds really let you know when they are hungry, I looked outside and one of them came to the feeder and saw nothing in it and flew away. So I put a few scoops of seed in the feeder and the sparrows have been going crazy, the squirrels are trying to figure out how to get the seeds away from the birds. I also took out some warm water to thaw out the bird bath. I hope something other than the sparrows get some of that seed.

Norman, OK

Nice pics, shutterbug. I'm sitting in my recliner in the living room this morning when I hear one of the crows making a really odd noise outside the window. Opened the shutter to see him and startled a Cooper's Hawk that was perched on the House Sparrow Hotel that I'd reopened yesterday. The three startled guests were huddled in the corner.

A pic of Daddy from yesterday. I was late with his breakfast and he come up on the patio to let me know.

Those Harris Sparrows are quite handsome mnshutterbug! Great shots everyone. teddy, I missed those birds if I don't get to see them for any extended time. Speaking of ducks, Red, I would love to see one of those Ring-necked ducks. I had a Ruddy visited the other day, but pix was too blurry to share. Love your many variety of birds Duc. And Rose, it's getting cold down South too. And I wished if I can just stay inside. :))

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Love that "Daddy" pix, red. Glad the Crows were there before the Cooper makes its next move. Your timing is also good as well.

Lakeview, OH

My pine cones are opening up and I did not do anything to them except put them in a pie pan and put them on the kitchen counter. I will put some peanut butter on them later on.

Rockport, TX(Zone 9a)

I've been away but I did look at all the beautiful pics on the last thread. This one is gorgeous too. I love the hawk shots and the loons! Beautiful sparrows, juncos, cardinals and love the Sandhill Crane! Just great everyone!

Went to South Dakota for Thanksgiving and have a few holiday-ish photos to share -- some Wild Turkeys.
