It's time for a new thread and here is a link to the previous one http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1230516/ . There are some great shots and worth going back and viewing.
I have a new computer with sound and also the keyboard works...wonders never cease. It is nice to be back and hope I don't ruin this computer...fingers crossed!
I visitied the brush pile today and just the regulars so far. Our weather has been so warm but looks like a cold front coming in so maybe more visitors will arrive soon.
We have lots of Carolina Chickadees this year but they are so quick and camera shy so I am always pleased to get a nice shot of them.
DAILY BIRD PICS. VOL.422
Great shots Rose! Love the female Cardinal along with the others. (Please be careful standing on the bathtub in your socks, lol)
Thanks for starting the new thread!
I walk away from the computer for a few and come back to see this new thread. :) I have to say it is a joy to see your Cardinal pictures, dellrose. They have been non-existent around the home and even on our birding trips to wooded areas.
It's not a great picture by any means, but I was quite befuddled to see a Mallard with the gulls yesterday.
Oh my goodness Rose. Beautiful pictures. Made my day. Cannot pick a favorite!! LOL
Thank you Rose for a nice start to a new thread. It's nice having you back posting. Best of luck with your new pc. The Dees are cute little birds to watch. I couldn't stop chuckle on your remark of their calls. lol. I spotted a flock of American Robins picking on what could be black berries (?). There were half dozen of them or more but could only get a few of them in one frame.
They do like fruit trees.
I was out this morning getting the neighbor's mail while they were away, and thought I saw something in the same area where I saw the Pileated that one time, I went over and saw a Northern Flicker come out of a hole in the tree, I guess that is where its nest is. I was very quiet and talked to it in a low voice and got pretty close. I am going to go back and take a picture of it and try to get a pic of the flicker either going in or coming out. Hopefully get one of the flicker too, they are such pretty birds!
Thanks everyone!
Chilly it is nice to see your water birds...I don't get to see them very often!
Lily...we have also had flocks of Robins and Waxwings eating up all the berries they can find!
Forgot to mention that I saw Captain Hook at the brush pile last week. Here is a not so good shot of him. I think this is the 3rd year he has been in the area and it is good to see him looking so fine!
Donna, wishing you a speedy recovery.
Rose, thank you for the wonderful new start. Those cardinals sure are colorful birds and you caught them just right. Love the dees and wp too. Bad girl, you could have fallen on that tub! Glad Capt. Hook is back and healthy.
Chilly, looks like your mallard is quite happy with the gulls.
Lille sweet photo of your robins.
Red, I always enjoy pictures of bbs-yours is adorable.
The crows have been enjoying our neighbors' persimmon trees.
Here is a picture my son took while he was here helping me for the first week at home after the Oct.. 24 hip joint revision. I am as you can see relaxing and so is my new at the time 2 month old puppy. She is a Toy Box Miniature Austrailian Shepard. She weighs almost 4 lbs. now at just over 2 months. I hope she won't get larger than 8 or 9 lbs. She is a real sweeetheart and very smart. I can't go outside with her for a week or two yet, but she is getting pretty brave to go out and explore by herself. I have over 2 acres of yard enclosed by redwood fence.
There is a pair of large Horned owls living in the neighborhood, and several large Red Tailed Hawks, but I am hoping my puppy (named Lady Wren) is large enough to escape from the birds.
Donna
Wonderful pictures folks. Duc you really should hook up with a greeting card company.
rutholive, love the doggie. So darned sweet. Wishing you continued rapid healing.
I think I read that someone once fed their woodpeckers peanut butter sandwiches, am I dreaming or did I actually read that? Is it possible to freeze them and put them in a upside down bird feeder? I was thinking of doing that until I got working and could afford some more suet cakes.
I don't know for positive but I wouldn't think the bread would be that good for birds.
Donna, Love the puppy! Continue to heal.
Duc, Love those shots!

My gosh...Rose you kicked off a great thread!
I saw a bird today that I am looking in the books trying to ID....wish I would have had my camera!
Great pics of that sharpshin, duc. I watched one take a crack at a flock of blackbirds yesterday, but he came up empty.
A close-up of a Sandhill Crane. Thousands of these birds winter on Oklahoma wheat fields. A bit of trivia-- skeletal remains dated 10-million years old found in Nebraska are identical to the sandhill, making it the oldest surviving bird species.
The Sandhill Crane is awesome, Red. Burd, nice ones of the Mergansers, Common Loon and Horned Grebe.
Super photos, all. I especially enjoyed the shot of the crow. I've never attempted a shot of this common bird and rarely ever even seen a photo of one. The environment really adds to the pic. My 2nd fave would have to be the Golden - crowned Sparrow, another shot I've never got. But then, I've never seen one before. Once again, I love the environment.
Great shots guys!
wonderful display of pictures.
Donna, great picture of you and Little Wren-cute name. That pup will keep you exercising after the surgery.
Burn love your jay. Nice one of the hawk too.
Red, great closeup of the crane. Interesting history lesson too-thanks.
Burd, beautiful shots. I especially liked that Loon-they sure are pretty.
I didn't see the sharpie hawk yesterday but the birds disappeared for a couple hours so I know he was around. Here's one from the day before when he was under a tree.
