This year I planted my cosmo seeds late and they got very tall but had few flowers. I read somewhere here that pinching them back can keep them shorter but give you more flowers. My question is that if I plant the seeds on time next year and let them grow high should I get more blooms. I loved the tall fern like plant but would love flowers also. I'm trying to design the layout where I will plant with the tall plants in the back. What are the expierence that some of you have had on cosmos?
Cosmo Questions
Yes, planting the seeds on time will definitely help you get more flowers. Also realize that while pinching them back will keep them shorter, it can also delay flowering so if you do get a late start again I wouldn't do too much pinching. Also make sure that they have enough sun--we have a long enough growing season in CA that I would have thought even with a little bit of a late start you would still have a decent number of flowers if the other conditions were right.
I didn't plant the seeds until the end of August and then I didn't stake them and the wind came up just enough to bend them and break them. I intend to stake them once they get hight to them. I really loved the tall fern look.
