Caring for seedlings while away on vacation

Matthews, NC(Zone 7b)

Hello all,
I'm going away on vacation for 9 days but I have echium seedlings growing. What should I do? I also have some Tibouchina plants (not seedlings) I'm concerned about. All are in my garage currently under grow lights.

Is there not a friend, relative, work colleague or even a neighbour who could pop in each day or second day to follow your instructions for you, in actual fact when myself or my gardening friends go or know dates for vacation we never do seeds for the dilemma you find yourself in.
It is easier to get care for mature plants but a lot of NON gardening folks go into a massive panic soon as you mention seeds, ha, ha, ha.

I guess the other thing you could do is set up a drip watering system that will last for the best part of the time you are away and you don't need an expensive system, just a home made dIY one will do, use empty juice bottles turned upside down to slowly drip away a tiny amount but you need time to set this up and test the drip, the flow of water etc.
The other thing is to use trays with NO drainage holes and fill the trays with small gravel / water, sit your pots onto the gravel and this would last for about a week,

I have no idea how many seedlings your talking about but I have used the kitchen worktops and set the seeds in trays with no drainage holes and bought a fabric you can use as a wick, you buy it at the garden centers, one end into the tray the other into the sink that has been filled with water, this has worked in an emergency BUT I have only been away 2 nights and the seedlings would probably survived that length of time anyway.

Maybe as you have lights you will just have to take the chance and if all fails, start off more seeds as with lights they will soon catch up again.
Wish I could help you out but wish you luck anyway. WeeNel.
