Well, I guess I am the newest one to get banned from the GW. Gosh at the criminal things I must have done!! I am just amazed at how they have so much time to be so petty. Please ban me!!! LOL -- I love to trade and talk flowers and before long, all of us at GW will be here anyway. Thanks Dave, for giving us another place to go. I would like to be a part of the growth of this site. Welcome to a great site from one 'banee to antother'! Who needs 'Spiteful Spike'?

Spike banned my seed swap friend gardening@fr.fm because she posted a message about a "sensory garden". She wanted flowers and plants that she could touch and smelled nice. She mentioned "MOAN FLOWERS" (sic) and got banned for "shouting" and placing "help" in her ad.

I have been banned twice from GW but not in a while. I learned not to say certian things. It sucks to be sent to Disney.com for stupid reasons (if any reason). I think that is what got me the maddest was no warning and no explaination from Spike.

I wasn't going to say anything before, but I can't resist. My first impression, before I knew anything about him, was based upon the name "Spike." Does anyone else invision a dog, a thug, or a vampire when thinking of who would be called "Spike?"

As I said somewhere else, I was just wondering if Disney know their site is being used illegially? Maybe we could sue Spike for millions on behalf of Disney - like a class action suite?

Welcome Niki! Us former GW-ers know exactly what you are talking about. While I wasn't banned I witnessed many others getting thrown out for the stupidest reasons. They were also some of the most knowledgable people too!!! And once they had gone I went as well. That site is very slow now. Not as hopping as it used to be. Things are so much nicer here. Everyone is a lot friendlier too!! The don't send out the attack force when you say the wrong thing!!!

Understandably some people are pretty upset over being banned from GW, but calling down the fires of heaven to rain on someone's head is a little much, don't you think?

Nah Pisces. I prefer to think of GW as an apprenticeship. Sort of a 2nd team outfit from which, once you have earned your spurs, you get promoted to DG.

A Spike spy? No. I'm just noticing a whole honk load of unmerited bashing going on. I do understand how people can be really upset after being banned (who wouldn't be, after all? It's quite hurtful to be told that you are no longer welcome somewhere - anywhere).

I see some who are more upset than others, and I *think* that these people might be allowing their anger to go a little bit overboard. For instance, saying that someone else is mentally ill, an unredeemable sinner, makes one feel like puking, has a petty life, and deserves the punishment of God (!!!) is, IMHO, a little bit overboard - and more than a little immature. Get over it, already.

Okay, let's all take a deep breath. We've been here before, and this too shall pass. In fact, if you'll notice the date this thread was started (and most of the really visceral reactions), it's from several months ago.

What's GW stand for?

Well over half a year ago, as a matter of fact.

We, as a community, got way past this long ago. For those who weren't with us back in the Great GW Exodus, we resolved to just enjoy our community here and not speak of GW in negative terms.

I think spike has a preprogrammed amount of words that he considers unsuitible for posting, if you try to post one you find your self at disney, like Lee's choice of word up the page would have certainly erned him a ticket to disney, for the most part it is ok, but i must admit i am lost for some of them, but bad language is not what we want to see on a thread, so its is ok to send someone to disney for attempting it.
It has been proven that people will take offence at the slightest thing, and spike has gone a long way to avoid offence from bad language, it is still possible to post your meaning of the word you choose by alteration, to ban someone for a petty thing is extreme, and it has happened a lot of times, to a lot of people, but spike has rules, the same as dave has, spike has more rules its true, but it is his site, and if we break those rules we will be told, one way or another.

But it does seem that power over such a site and judging what is fair and what is offensive, is absolute and with out hearing is to extreme, every one desevers a chance to speak there case, and these sites are open to the world and no two countrys are the same in there tollerance of certain subjects so there will always be cultural differences, and this too should be taken into consideration, it is always easy to point the blame at spike, and yes maybe he is extreme in his banning, but it is a large site, and when ever you get a lot of people in a room problems occure at some point, human nature unfortunately, we argue and we blame, but we never blame ourselves for what we might have done or might have said without thought, we dont know how many times we have been offensive without realiseing it.

I have long since gotten over my banning, but I wonder how many of the 3,248 (and counting) members of DG are GW refugees?

For those of us who went thru that so long ago had our say and we said it loudly. Then we felt better about it. I have long since gotten over it but there are still people that are just experiencing it now. If your sick of the subject, then pass it by. I think its awesome that Dave didnt edit Lees "arse" word. Thats what makes it different from GW. You hear worse on Nick at Night.
These newly banned folks need to express their fustrations and get it out in order to get over it.
Please let them have their time, just as the originals did.

Hi everybody, I haven't been banned from the GW and only few days ago I joined DG, I did it because I check it out and I find out that it was such a FRIENDLY place, with a good bunch of well meaning individuals, all with open heart and, what is more important these days, open MINDS. In GW you feel the competition and "greed" of many traders, it is like a market going wild!. Another reason: GW make me feel alien , a foreigner: I, living where I live, usually got the :" you live in SOUTH AMEEEEERIIIICAAAAA, WHY DIDNT YOU SAY THAT" and other, " I trade only with USA " or "europe is my limit" : Just things like that, that were out of place and nothing to do with gardening. May be, it add a cent or two more in stamp, but in time with so many problems all over the world,we are spreading good will, peace, good cheer and a lot of happiness! So let's close our eyes and bless ourselves for the luck of been toghether in DG, our garden!!!!!!
