I don't see any mulch in your garden. By adding mulch on top of mulch each year, you are starting your e-co system, which means you are making nutrient soil for your plants. Hay is good. I would not dig in the garden. This messes up your e-co system. Plant on top of your mulches. Just my 2-cents.

You're right. No mulch yet. I just started my compost pile. Right now it's manure type soil amendment. Mulch will come soon though. Thanks for the input!
