Daily Bird Pics. Vol. #419

Cuyahoga Falls, OH(Zone 5a)

Great pics everyone ! I didn't know we had eagles in Ohio ! Here is yet another picture of our mourning doves. Looks so sweet and peaceful.

GP, love that bunting. That should brighten any ole gray sky!

Burd, beautiful shot of the gold-crowned kinglet. I have a ruby-crowned here, but it won't sit still for a picture. Great shots of the junco and eagles.

Countrymom, your dove is so cute.

The Northern Flickers are sure enjoying the berries here.

This junco was waiting for a free spot on the peanut butter log. Anyone notice how high the peanut butter prices have risen? Yikes, I'm glad we stocked up all summer when there was a sale.

Thanks for starting what is turning out to be a really good thread, Duc. Precious little Cedar Waxwing.

I particularly like your Long-billed Curlew and the White-tailed Hawk, Elphaba.

Congratualations on the lifers, Ladi Burd.

The Golden-crowned Kinglet is so sweet, Burd.

I agree Margaret this thread has a quite a variety. Nice shots everyone!! Well I think I may have another lifer...possibly a Little Gull, waiting for confirmation in the identification forum, if it is that's No. 215. Here Ive got another shot of a Bonaparte's Gull in the late evening light.

Nice ones, Burd.

At the Osprey nest this afternoon, the Willie Wagtails zeroed in on a Kookaburra. These were literally snap and grab shots with the 500mm lens that I had set up for the Ospreys.

Just after this shot was taken, the Kookaburra departed the scene, with two Willie Wagtails in hot pursuit. These shots were taken on the growing part of the Osprey nest tree

GO Little WWTs!

Manzanita, OR(Zone 8b)

Nanny, bet the vultures looked larger on the ground. I missed seeing any juveniles (in white) again this year.

Ladi Burd, congratulations on the lifers. Great photos, especially the kinglet.

Burd, congrats to you too on the lifer. Your Bonaparte's is beautiful. I've always loved photos of the mallards-yours is wonderful. So glad you're seeing the beautiful snow buntings-wow, they're so pretty.

Margaret, loved the photos of the kookaburra and willy-the bird didn't seem too worried about the little guys attacking. That's how it looks when the crows dive at our eagles. So much fun to watch.

Here's one of my Brewer's Blackbirds.

I love the different colors on these birds before they turn pure black.

I think this is a Hermit Thrush. Had two of them chasing each other all over the trees.

Congrats to Ladi_Burd for your lifers!

Duc....you are on a real roll there!

Burd & Margaret awesome shots as always!

The Pileated Woodpeckers usually disappear from the yard after the young are getting around good and they enjoy the bounty of insects the woods provide. We still see them out and about and hear them. But then, about this time of year they start showing up again at the suet feeders. Not everyday at first....just a stop now and then to make sure we are still serving up goodies. They started last week doing flybys and scoping out the yard last week. This morning the small male stopped in for a bite!

Ladi_Burd congrats on the lifers! Nice shots too. It's hard to get a shot of a kinglet at all. They move around so fast, so bravo!
Burd, great photos -- LOVE the Bald eagle shots-- WOW!
Nanny & Duc, totally jealous of your juncos! and the Pileated and Cedar Waxwings and all.
Margaret, really fabulous shots of such amazing birds. Y'all really know how to name them too!

Was thrilled by an up close and personal encounter with a Clapper Rail yesterday. Here's one of two pics that I'll share.

I didn't crop this at all. The bird filled up the whole frame as it walked right by me.

How cool Elphaba!

Nanny, Is your suet feeder nailed to the trunk? We bought a fancy pole set up and have a hopper with suet feeders on the sides. From one hook is a suet plug feeder and the other a tube feeder with black-oil sunflower seeds. It's been up about a month and a half now. Nothing is touching this but for a couple attempts from the house sparrows. We know we have Downys, Red-bellieds and Flickers right now, but they are only going after the peanuts in the platform. I want to change things around, but not sure what will work.

Burd_fotos, beautiful eagles and snow buntings. I hope to see some of those this winter. Hope is the big word. :) And I like your Mourning Dove, Countrymom. I miss ours and do not know where they all went. It was a sad year because Iowa now allowed them to be hunted in September and October.

We went to the lake on Saturday and saw some beautiful Ring-billed Gulls. We enjoyed how close they got to us.

Hey Cilly! I have large nails in the tree that hang the suet feeders on. Here I have to be able to bring them in at night due to raccoons.

I also I have two pole systems.....one is used for the orioles in the summer and then in the winter I set it up for the woodpeckers with suet and peanuts.

Here is an old shot showing how I set it up

It does take awhile for the birds to get used to it...but if conditions are bad enough they will come.

Here is a Hairy and a Flicker last December. The flickers are the ones who visit the least here.

But the Pileated became quite used to it and come almost daily during the winter!

Thanks for sharing everyone. It always perks up my day when I have a chance to come on here and look at the photos:)

Here's a Black-crested Titmouse in Hamilton County, TX.

Another photo from Hamilton County, TX. This is not a great photo, but the scene is very interesting. There were a bunch of Turkey Vultures on a carcass and this Red-tailed Hawk came in to keep the order. He/she looks so authoritative. Fascinating dynamic.

Norman, OK

Great pics. I'd love to have a decent pic of a Pileated. I seldom see them, and when I do it's usually flying away.

I've posted a couple of shots of this bird, but she's so beautiful thought I would post another shot of Norma, the leucistic Red-tailed Hawk that lives down along the Canadian.

Nanny. I love that pileated photo. They are such beautiful birds. Love all the feeder shots too.

Elphaba, your rail photos are both awesome. How exciting to get so close-congrats.

Chillybean, great shot of the gulls.

Missy, great pictures of the titmouse and hawk.

Red, that hawk couldn't look any better-what an awesome feeling you must get while taking photos.

The juncos continue to keep me running for the camera.
