The Pileated Woodpeckers usually disappear from the yard after the young are getting around good and they enjoy the bounty of insects the woods provide. We still see them out and about and hear them. But then, about this time of year they start showing up again at the suet feeders. Not everyday at first....just a stop now and then to make sure we are still serving up goodies. They started last week doing flybys and scoping out the yard last week. This morning the small male stopped in for a bite!
