White Pine Needles as mulch for leafed trees.

I have a lot of white pine needles. I have just planted a sunset maple about 3"dia. I also have numerous red bud, silver maples, red maples and a couple of small and miniture blue spruce and a few pin oaks. Can the needles be used as mulch for these trees?
