Multiple Photos?

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Podster, we have talked about adding it to the journals and it's on the list. Navigating through the photos is a great idea - I'll see what we can do, but that may be limited by DG's current programming platform.

Thanks much for the considerations and the new goodies! Kristi

Thanks for listening and implementing. Cool new feature!!

Meaning to add... maybe to go through the series of photos like we can when in PlantFiles?

Much thanks to all those that made the multi photo function a reality. :)

I love having the new feature, but as someone said...won't work for me. It was answered ....maybe photos are too large? So how large can the maximum size be?

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

The system has always automatically resized anything over 1000 pixels wide, so if you have 5 images that you are tying to upload and they're all large files, it could get balky.

Try backing your file size down and see if that helps.

.jpgs are typically smaller files than .gifs so saving them in another format can also help the transmission process. As far as pixels go, we've always recommended 800x600 or 640x480 as good sizes for most monitors.

Also be sure you are adding text in the post to accompany the photos, and it isn't identical to any other post you've made in that same thread.

Had some trouble but thanks to the last few posts I will try to correct myself.
Thanks again, Admin team!

Podster and Terry, I see you've already talked about having the ability to navigate through the photos. That's what I was going to ask about too. While I recognize that you may have limitations based on the current program, that's one thing that I really would like in the future if you can find a way to do it.

Thanks,
Ann

Thanks for the feedback, Ann - it's high on our list too :-)

I'll chime in about the navigating through the photos. While it might be easier for the poster to now post multiple photos, it's really no different for the viewer, we still have to keep going back to the main thread to see each photo enlarged, same as before when it was multiple posts. But definitely a step in the right direction, thanks!

Navigation is definitely on our radar screen!

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

Navigation would be awesome! Even without it though I still love the multiple photos feature, there are a lot less newbies starting multiple threads on the same plant in the ID forum because now they can put all their pics in at once.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

I can post no more than 3 pics at a time. If I try to do more, I get kicked back to the list of forums page and my pics go into outer space somewhere. What's up with that?

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

I wonder if your pictures are too big? With pictures that are too large things can get hung up--if you try making the file size of your pictures smaller you might have better luck uploading more at once.

I am on IPhoto on a Mac. Do you know how to reduce the size of photos?

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

I don't use iPhoto. If you open in Preview instead (if you find the file in Finder and open it from there it should open in Preview--at least it does on my computer). Then you can go to File-->Save As and there's a slider that lets you pick how big of a file you want it to be. Make sure you save the new smaller file under a new name though so you don't over-write your higher resolution original file in case you want that for something else someday.

Thanks so much. Sharon

Thanks Liz! We own a couple Macs, but I don't use one so I would have been at a loss as to how to reduce the resolution size on one :-)

Here's a YouTube video on using iPhoto to resize images: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xLXVC9oil2w
