slender, legged translucent worms in my lettuce & parsley!!

Houston, TX

I just planted a lettuce mix and some parsley in a large pot about 5 days ago. My lettuce is already sprouting and seems to be in very good health. I've been volunteering at a new local organic garden shop, so I know everything I am doing is correct and everything I've used is top-notch..however, to my dismay, the shop is closed for a week and with my luck, this is when I discover worms I do not recognize. I don't know anything about pests!!

The worms have multiple tiny legs, the bodies are slightly translucent (to where you can see a black/brownish tint in their rear-end), have long antennae, curl up when disturbed, and only come out at night. I've attached some photos, so hopefully one of you can help me identify! I really hope these are good guys. :/

thanks!

Some kind of millipede.

Ayrshire Scotland, United Kingdom

When I was a small child helping my Dad in the garden I was always told that, anything that moved fast was a friend in the garden (they don't eat plants) just other bugs.
Anything that moves slowly is a foe because they munch the plants.

To this day I have always read that as true and follow this to a TEEEEE, the strange thing is, when I see a millipede /centipede, and fast running beetles etc, they are in such a hurry to go eat the slugs, Caterpillars, and sap sucking slow moving pests busy eating the plants. the fast movers eat the slow bugs, ha, ha, ha, all a bit complicated I know but go out and watch for yourself.
The fast movers are not interested in plants but they know the slow bugs are and thats where the fast bugs dinner is.O.M.G. I think this could be a ballad in years to come eh!!!! Good luck. WeeNel.
