Just curious I know that you share Dahlias by dividing the tubers but when looking at the spent blooms on my Dahlia I wondered could there be seeds in those brown spent blooms?
Thanks in advance.
Seeds from Dahlias
They can make seeds too, but the seeds may not come true so you may end up with different colors, etc than the parent plant. Dividing the tubers will give you Dahlias that look the same as the original.
Thanks that makes sense about not coming true from seed. But I couldn't help but wonder if those were actually seeds that I saw in the spent blooms.
Here's a page with some pictures of the seeds: http://sfdahlias.org/newsletters/2006/mar/mar2006.htm If the flower just barely faded and turned brown then the seeds likely haven't had a chance to form & ripen yet, but if the spent flowers are pretty old then there may be some seeds in there.
Thanks ecrane3 looks about what mine looked like. Hard to actually distinguish them as what I think of as seeds but probably are
