Hi! I'm the new guy!!!

Corinth, TX

I am sure that I am the only new guy on the block..;)

In August I bought the square foot garden book. I excitedly put in a 4x4 raised bet in 108 degree weather cooling my head with the garden hose. I set in seeds of carrot, lettuce, brussel sprouts, radish and such.

The book said to use 5 different composts, I used 1. Cotton seed compost. every thing else was per book.

So now 2 months later it is all about 1 inch tall. water 30 min with soaker hose every day then to 2 days. last 2 weeks a little less. The bush beans rose to about 6 inches then turned yellow.

Interestingly, I put a cucumber by the neighbors fence in the dirt and it is out performing the raised bed by a long shot.

So, I guess I am lacking fertilizer. So last week and this week I added miracle grow. Some improvement.

So, my name is Dewayne and I live in south Denton, Corinth area.

Talk to me!!!::)

most of what you mentioned are cool season crops. it's possible to over water even in the kind of heat texas is experiencing. planting in that kind of heat can stress even the hardiest of plants. that's about all i can think of at the moment.

a friend at work got tired of me asking gardening questions. he just keeps saying "just put some seeds in the ground and see what happens" so I finally did. It is fun watching them grow. Now it is cooler!!

Hi New guy, I always love to see new gardeners join up.You'll soon be addicted.
Now is the time to order every new catalog you can get your hands on and spend the winter dreaming of what you want to order.Then in Spring cut the list w-a-y- down.You'll learn alot just reading seed catalogs.
Pinetree seeds in Maine is a must.Bakers nursery is another good one.
