I have several questions that hopefully can be answered. I planted 5 swamp milkweed plants in the spring. They were beautiful through August. Then the leaves started to turn spotty black and stayed this way for about a month before falling. Are black leaves a sign of disease? I noticed new sprouts on several of the plants that have since died out again. I have nothing left but the branches. Should I cut these back now to wait for growth next spring or is pruning not a good idea? The plants are about three feet high.
