Weather In Your Garden # 107

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Frost on the cars and grass this morning. We pulled the geraniums up onto the porch last night, and they looked okay today. The three trays of Florida plants (LOL) are here inside and looking confused over where they will possibly fit in the car. I tell them often not to sweat it.

South Hamilton, MA

Supposed ly in high 50s tomorrow. I hope it feels warm enough to start cutting peony foliage.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Do you cut yor peonies all the way back, Lucy?

Thomaston, CT

I do Louise.....and aren't those lucky plants to be headed to FL?

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

brrrrrrr all you frost talkers!!!!!!!!!!!

low was 42° high was 68°

South Hamilton, MA

yes to cutting peonies all the way back--helps keep diesease at bay. DH deswposes of the stems in a different place than the compost area. Colder tomorrow, although that is relative--told to cover tender plants (only one here is in a pot inside now.)

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

woo hoo.. no frost ... but 37 now going to 69

Amherst, NY(Zone 6a)

Good morning.

Currently a chilly 45 degrees in WNY but heading up to the mid 70's with sunshine. Very nice.

Have a blessed and fantastic Friday, friends. ☺

Mid-Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 5b)

36 degrees when I got up this morning. A close one. So far don't see evidence of frost. Sun is out and it should be another gorgeous day.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

34 here this AM

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Thanks, Marilyn and Lucy....that is helpful. How about hydrangeas, butterfly bushes, sedum, iris and phlox?

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

BUURRRRRRRRR! I'm just now getting on as i've been sitting my butt in front of the fireplace all morning. It was 29 degree's when I got up this morning!!!!!!!!!

Thomaston, CT

Uh, oh....you win the frost prize, Pixie! I think I escaped....the pineapple sage still looks good!

South Hamilton, MA

We cut down siberian iris foliage in the fall (about now). Bearded we just remove some of the dead leaves.

Huron, OH(Zone 5b)

68 and sunny. lots of sewing needs to happen today, taking a break

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Sew outside!

Thomaston, CT

Almost fell asleep in the sun!

Albany, NY(Zone 5a)

Wait... This is my first year with irises. So i should cut down the siberians foliage now? What about Louisiana, or Japanese? Leave the bearded alone? What about the dwarf and intermediate? Oh dear..... So much more left to do!!!

South Hamilton, MA

yes do siberian foliage. Don't grow LA or JI. the dwarf & IB irises are very hardy. If newly planted I would suggest a pine needle mulch for the first winter. Otherwise your snow should do it. If no snow, watch for heaving. If the ground stays frozen, no problems.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

chilly now but nicer today!!.. 48 going to 79!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

45 going up to 78 today! Yippee

South Hamilton, MA

48 supposed to be near 80. I would prefer low 70s for garden work. Woke up around 4 & couldn't get back to sleep--going to be a rough day.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

must be one of those nights.. I had a hard time falling asleep last night

Lexington, MA(Zone 6a)

Overnight low here was 39 F. We've been lucky about frost, but I brought my citris indoors anyway. Highs in the 70's predicted all weekend. Another stroke of luck. I am planting a dozen peony roots and adding soil and stuff to my hills and berms today until I can't anymore. If my procrastinators would go to college open houses, it wouldn't be so easy to garden this weekend.

Thomaston, CT

My son was like that, Rosemary...he applied to 2 colleges, never went to see either, got accepted at both....chose one, and I guess was happy with his choice! Warming up to 75 today....yay!

Huron, OH(Zone 5b)

62 and still alot of dew on the lawn and garden.

Amherst, NY(Zone 6a)

Good morning.

Bright and sunny in WNY. Currently 57 degrees heading up to the mid-upper 70's. Very nice.

Have a blessed and super Saturday, friends. ☺

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

How far down do you cut the sib foliage?

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

70 and perfect out right now..sunny, but not even a touch of color. This weekend is usually peak for us. I have no idea what Mother Nature is doing that caused her to forget about Fall Foliage time here!

Lexington, MA(Zone 6a)

Thanks for the kind words, Robin. Kids are quite an adventure.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

What would we do without them, Rosemary? Things work out for them somehow, it seems. :)

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

great day today

South Hamilton, MA

In the 70s, great weeding weather.

Re siberian foliage--about 2/3. I have a wicked tool (Japanese rice knife). Grab the foliage with my left hand & slash with the knife in the right. Haven't cut myself yet, & don't have a third hand on which to cross fingers. It is a quick system. I think I will start tomorrow, much more pleasant in nice weather.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Absolutely gorgeous today. I did the mowing today on my new rider. Woohoo! Now, Jeff can do the trim. I even weedwacked. He worked on putting the siding back up around the 3 light window in the kitchen. Still two more smaller windows to put in. Hopefully the weather stays dry enough for a bit to do them.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

55 going up to 81 today! We might break some records here in Maine!!!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

pretty shot Celeste!!... 46 now going to 85 for goodness sake

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Thanks Allison, I love the view off my back deck. ^_^

Lexington, MA(Zone 6a)

Love Celeste's sunrise. I could use Iris' knife. My system lately is to loosen the weeds with a sod cutter and then pull. That way the spring bulbs are undisturbed.

It's another gardening day for me but I will feel better if some kids start their college apps. Thankfully, they have been my "garden", and so far, as Louise kindly reminds me, they are turning out OK. Since they're multiples I worry about how the elastic that binds them will stretch (to mix metaphors) since they're thinking about different colleges (I think they might end up together anyway).

Is anyone else sore from all the opportunity this beautiful weather allows us to work outside?Phooey on indoor housework on a day like this.

South Hamilton, MA

I'll trade you shoulders. Came home from church & took a nap, it still says 'ouch' but I'll work on siberian folisge this afternoon.
