Curly spider problems

Pawnee, IL

I started a curly spider from babies and it grew quickly and very healthy, but the pot was just too full. So I split it out and repotted into several pots. It has lots of babies and those look fine, but the mom looks awful. Can anyone tell me what type of problem this is?

sherri,

Not sure what the problem is, maybe scale? Do you see any small round reddish/brown bumps on the undersides of any leaves? They appear to be stationery but actually just move slow. These would be scale. This is just a suggestion. I am sure the experts will stop by and chime in soon.

Looks OK to me, any plant that has been ripped apart, set into a new pot / soil will be in shock for a little time, the plant needs time to settle into it's new situation, first thing it has to do is make new roots due to many being broken at time of splitting into smaller plant-let.

The brown bits on the foliage looks like either water dropping onto the leaves and then the sun causes burn spots from the water, or the plant is sitting too close to a very sunny window where the sun dries out the leaves.
Now and again my Wandering Jew gets nibbled with earwigs that come indoors sometimes when the conservatory is opened fully to cool it down, greenfly/ whitefly, both leave a sticky mess when full invasion takes over so look out for all those things. Hope this also helps. Good luck, WeeNel.

Hi Sherri, hopefully your spider plant is better. I use a systemic pesticide from Bayer, feeds and kills insects. Works great.
I had my spider plant outside this year for some months and when I brought it in i noticed little hard seeds dropping form flowers that it had. First time I had noticed this. Can make many plants from mother plant, I do know they like to be crowded.
I also use that Bayer products on all plants I had outside before bringing them in (it last all season with one application) so I don't bring in any unwanted pests.
Merry Christmas....
