Odd shaped tomatoes

durham, United Kingdom

I have grown some strange heart shaped tomatoes from a packet of Moneymaker seeds.
Is there any reason for them being this shape; the other plants I raised from the same packet were normal and round.

regards,

Peter

My only thought would be that a seed of another variety of tomato found it's way into the packet. Just a guess.

The shape looks a lot like a variety I grew last season called "Pink Oxheart." The name 'pink' is misleading, because they didn't turn out what I would call pink, they were just a little lighter than a traditional deep tomato red. They were the earliest of what I grew too.

That's a nice-looking cluster of tomatoes, but the shape seems too pointed even for most heart varieties.

Tomatoes will sometimes form pointed ends from stress such as hot weather and drought. Since you're in the U.K., extreme heat isn't likely but I notice the leaves on your plant are wilted. Is it getting enough water?

Thank you for your suggestions.
I think Ozark has answered the question. This plant was the only one in a smallish pot whereas the others were in 10litre pails. It has therefore had less compost and water than the others during its season. Albeit the tomatoes are an odd shape, they have all reached a good size and have ripened really well over this past week.

Thanks again,

Peter
