I was given some of these, enough to eat with more for planting in the spring. How should I store these until the time for planting? We've never stored onions for long term use, only buying what we will use in a short time.
A couple springs ago we planted onions and they did about as well as anything we try growing. (Meaning poorly) I was told about how deep, but what type of soil is best for these and what type of nutrients would they like? Oh and what about spacing?
I think I asked all the important questions. :) Thank you for any help.
Multiplier Onions Storage and Planting
Here's a site with lots of good info. I don't know about up there in your climate but down here I grow enough during the summer for table use plus extras to grow during the winter. They keep in the ground very nicely but your climate may be too cold. I do dry them between the end of summer (after they have started to set seed I dig them all up) so that I can plant some in the fall. BTW, I've chopped them up and bagged them in Food Saver bags for the freezer--they're great in soup, stew, etc.
