Are Japanese Irises the only family of Irises that are good for water gardens? Also , What other plants would you recommend besides the usual ones that , in particular, are shades of maroon in color??
Irises

Iris versicolor http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/998/ Louisiana Iris http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/136421/and
Iris virginica http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/80107/ are all Irises for water
Funny you should ask about maroon plants...I've been searching for something to replace my Lobelia 'Ruby Slippers' I didn't know they are a short lived perennial when I planted it but it matched the color scheme of this garden perfectly....I've been searching and have yet to find what I'm looking for but can probably help
What type of area do you need it for? sun or shade? tall or short?
