yeah, I've been packing winter clothes this last month, along with tropical ones for home areas. Have already seen snow in Colo- but that is how I remember even Wyoming-snow by late August. Still dry tho, very dry, adding hand lotion to the static hairs laying on my shoulders, sigh.

It has been NICE here outside, unfortunately I have not been out there. I' ve had an upper respiratory infection, equalibriam (SP) off, weak, could barely stand up. So I have been "DOWN" again for over a week......not fun.

Weather is still down, I am UP today....that is progress! Praise the Lord! There is HOPE!

Christi we are not going to accept or beieve the written report of doom by that newspaper. We ARE gaoing to pray and believe by faith that God is good, and will bring rain soon and often on a regular basis in the NAME OF JESUS!

Even our Houston City Council has requested Pastor's come in and PRAY for RAIN!
This is serious. We all need to stand together in prayer for our Nation's weather as well as other issues our people need, jobs, food, water. These are basic essentials to life.

I agree that we all need to be thankful and Praise HIM for all of HIS many blessings daily. But we still need to be faithful in our requests for what we need believing HE will provide. He is our only HOPE.

If nothing else, these conditions have / should show mankind we cannot do it alone. We need divine help daily!!!!

Well, we got 4 1/2 inches at our house. My husband and son were at Midland for the airshow. They said the rain started at 4 am and lasted all morning. My brother in law got 4 in Irving and my mom got 5 in Marble Falls. Hope ya'll all got rain at your house!

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

don't know how much but we got rain and it is STILL RAINING in DeSoto, Texas. Hallelujah!

I got an inch on friday night.. it was wonderful. Things sure look so much better since we have had rain 3 times in the past 3 weeks. It is amazing what a little rain can do. We are up to 2 inches of rain in the past year and almost all of it has come in the past 3 weeks. I have 2 brugs that have survived and are now about 4 inches tall each. My mountain magic kept 2 and 3 small leaves all summer and stayed about 2 inches tall... it is finally starting to grow! My mother is soooo disappointed not to have any brugs this year. They just could not survive no matter what we tried. The humidity was just too low I think for them. Most days this summer were below 8%.

Just took another stroll through the garden. Went pretty early this morning as well. Sun came out late in the afternoon and the plants all seem to think it is spring. New growth, buds, blooms. It is magic what rain can do. Even have a gardenia about to bloom. God is good. He has let us live in the valley this year but now we are once again climbing that mountain.

Baytown, TX(Zone 9a)

We got rain also ! Yeah! Probably 3-5 inches!

Glad to hear that you got rain also!

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

No rain in deep east TX but I'm so glad for those of you that received it this time.

Fires are a major worry. Our small volunteer fire depts are being assisted by firefighters from many other states and I've had a chance to tell them I do appreciate them!

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

I hope you get some soon.

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

Thanks much! Many of us here are on that same wavelength... lol

Praying for your area to get relief son, Kristy. While we didn't get but about 1", it has made all the difference.

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

You know, I live deep in the woods. Tonight I was looking at the treeline around our home and am saddened to see dying pine trees. Large ones that have turned brown. Many of the hardwoods are still living but have shed their leaves ~ we'll see.

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

Newscaster said this week that there is a good chance that 8 out of 10 trees in Texas will not make it till next spring. I pray he is wrong, wrong, wrong.

Climate change has starting turning Texas into a desert. More to come. Human practices are ruining the planet. I am glad I am old with just few years left to curse the greedy humans.

We didn't get rain....we are supposed to get a cold front before the weekend, down in the forties. We tried moving some of the plumies, ferns, houseplants, majesties all together around the little rock waterfall to try to create a "Microclimate". It's close to the side of the house with banana trees and plants on the other side.

The plumies don't like it below the 50's. It will probably warm up again after the weekend.

I am trying to figure out a way to cover them up for the winter without having to move them in under the gazebo. I think I have it figured out. I'll tell you all about it later.

Hope you have a great week!

Texas isn't alone in the drought, our temps are high, but there are burn bans and the system is dry all the way to Nebraska, east toward Tenneesse, and westward, well, even there it is dry. Where fires were fought, they were mostly set by deliberate causes, but this isn't really new to Texas- there is a poem online you can read, I have read it since a child- Hell in Texas- and it describes this year really well. Was always 'fond' of the poem, sorta in a humorless way. We have simply become accustomed to our wet last few years, spoiled us rotten, chuckle. So, what plants go forward the next few years to see us thru the drier days?
Sunup at the Route 66 Casino in Rio Puerco, NM, they thought that getting rain was an amusing thing...

We got rain tonight!!!!!! It wasn't alot....but every little bit helps!

We were watching TV and I didn't even know that it was raining.....when we muted the TV for a moment we could hear water running.........so I told DS either it's raining or we have a really big leak somewhere.....sure enough it was raining!

With the last two severe winters and this past summer, I am definitely checking what lived and what died in my flower garden. Because everything went dormant this summer it all thinks it is spring and is blooming like crazy. The bananas (thank you Jeanne) die to the ground and come back. I have brugs both in the ground and in pots. Oddly, both are now growing like a weed. Amazing what just a little bit of rain can do....and of course, the let up in the temperatures. Brugs are loaded with buds, hope we don't get a cold system that gets them before they bloom. Roses are doing the best ever. Strange.

Just heard then saw geese flying south.

I understand what you are saying.. I have two brugs that would not grow all season.. less than 4 inches tall then suddenly they are growing! Now over a foot tall each and taller every day.

Baytown, TX(Zone 9a)

It was 46 around 1:30 am, and at 10:30 am it was only 55. It has warmed up since to 69.

Friday night we went to a high school football game to see the grandchildren in band and drill. They did great! Their team won 42-6 also. It was sooooo cold, I about froze to death and it wasn't even freezing outside. It was windy, tho.

I will have to go out today and look at my brugs. Hopefully with this last rain they are doing better.

Edited to correct a typo.

We need a new thread, Halloween here, and gone almost, temps aren't soaring, and 70 feels COLD! chuckle, I cant do it, anybody?

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

Spent yesterday starting to move plants into the GH. I hope to accomplish more today.

When I got up I checked the weather site I prefer and saw this...

Quoting:

Temperature

34.0 °F

Feels Like 62 °F

Good thing the coffee wasn't ready yet or I'd still be choking.

Have a good Halloween Monday ~

Baytown, TX(Zone 9a)

That's funny! Did they really mean 26?

It was 53 at the game Fri night and it definately seemed 32! It was windy and cold. It has been in the forties of a morning. It is supposed to warm up and then be cold on Friday again. We might put a fire in the fireplace......

Jeanne

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

Not sure what they meant ~ lol
I refreshed the page and it said 43° feels like 43°

Odd how it can feel so much colder than the actual temperature.

No fire here yet. I am a bit hinky about it as we are ever so dry ~ extreme fire danger.
The fireplace makes me nervous when I've seen the roaring fires DH can build.

Baytown, TX(Zone 9a)

That's true, it might not be a good idea since the embers can fly out the top........oh well.

Thanks for reminding me! Sure don't want to burn the house down or someone elses!

virtual fireplace-illusion is at least cheerful, cup of hot choc-warmth.
