The view isn't bad, but the pic. of the bird? Yikes!
Appallingly bad pix volume 20
Whoa! At least I can almost "see" the bird zooming by with its catch there Margaret. :))
haaa. I love that one.
yup....that one is bad Margaret! lol
Chillybean, it was the male osprey.
Bad pics nanny and chilly
I just discovered this thread and I'm cracking up. Such wonderfully bad photos and hilarious commentary. I'll have to start saving a few of the many bad ones I manage to get.
Margaret, The bird you started off the thread with is so beautiful. Any good shots of that guy I can see elsewhere?
Burn, Your "shiver" photo is so cool. I hope you got some good ones of that gorgeous light and those little cuties.
Nanny, That WHAAT image is quite artistic looking - like a painting. ^_^
Lily_Love, This is probably more than you wanted and you might already know this, but ...
When you are shooting a bird with light colors on it (your heron) in a darker environment, you either have to use a spot meter on the bird or you have to set your camera to underexpose to get the bird exposed correctly. (the camera is "seeing" all that dark area and is exposing correctly to brighten it and results in overexposing the heron's light colored feathers).
And, just the opposite, when you are shooting those dark geese against a light sky, the cam is seeing all the light area and exposing correctly for it (beautiful colors you captured in the sky!) resulting in underexposing the birds. In that case, you have to set your camera to overexpose a bit before you shoot.
After a bit of trying, you will know how much to over or under expose to get the subject exposed right. Of course, in the heron shot, the foliage would all be pretty dark and in the sky shot, you would lose a lot of the beautiful color. It's all a trade off.
Patti
P_Edens,
I was just thrilled when I found this thread. I have so many more bad pictures than I do decent ones, so I feel right at home. I am glad you found it and am looking forward to seeing your bad pictures.
oooo....that is really bad! lol
Oh my goodness......That truly is dreadful Resin!!
LOL, good bad shots everyone. Patti thank you for the pointers. I just now returned to our thread from nearly a week of absence. Hah, it maybe more than I needed for right now. Given time, I maybe able to digest the helpful information once my head is cleared up. I've been more than the proverbial 'under the weather' kind of being. Be back soon with more aweful picies.
Baad picture, Resin. The Pileated looks to have had too much caffeine, Nanny. :)

LOL with y'all.
I think so.
Thanks Resin. I thought of 'em being vultures for 1st I saw one, then two and the flock was a whoopy seven of them. They were flying overhead.
Dreadful, Chilly and Lily.
I found a couple of baddies...
I enjoyed watching these two play king of the mountain, fighting over who got the best perch at the top of the pipe. I was busy snapping photos completely forgetting that the white feathers of the white morph Reddish Egret were going to blow out. While I can probably recover most of that detail, without getting seriously creative in Photoshop, I can't fix that horribly messy, littered shoreline. I never even noticed that trash until I got home and started looking. Yuck.

Easy to edit out the litter on the shoreline. Can't do anything about blown-out whites though. Or the old pipe (which is also litter) - if I edited that out, the birds wouldn't have anything to stand on!
