Purchasing Plants in September??

Pittsburgh, PA

I saw these flowers and took note of their names while visiting Cheekwood in Nashville Tn last week.

I live in Pittsburgh and it's September. If I purchase these from you as a plant, is this the appropriate time to purchase and plant these plants?

Blue Wild Indigo
Winterberry
Sweet Pea Vine
Crepe Myrtle
Angel Mist

Thanks for your help.

Have a look to check if the plants are annuals, per annuals or bi-annuals, the difference being, annuals (seeds) get planted spring and grow /flower / die in the same single year.

Bi-annuals you grow Seeds summer-autumn one year and can transplant to flowering site the following spring and after flowering, most die off or are weakened enough not to merit allowing growth 2nd - 3rd flowering so you dig them up and discard them.

Perennials grow seeds spring or autumn, when large enough to handle prick out and let grow till large enough to go outside into flowering position, these perennials will die down into the soil in autumn when winter is arriving and come spring, they send out new shoots / growth again ready to make new flowers etc, this will continue every year.

However there are things like Lupins that are NOT long lasting perennials therefore most people grow new seeds of those every 3/4 years as the plants become weaker as the years go by. hope this helps you find what you have and what to expect and care for them. good luck, WeeNel.
