Garden Photos # 18
NICE!!
Love that one, Jen!
Wow! a real eye opener! Love the DL, Jen.
Very pretty Jen! :)
Amazing! I guess I have to try harder to grow liatris, having seen that.
They were migrating...my stepson gave me a photo taken on an island in Maine where a tree was just covered by migrating monarchs.....very pretty on the liatris!
I hope they are south enough now to do okay.. we are having our first frost warning tonight. I just finished getting the last plant in. I didn't cover anything outside.. hopefully we don't get it because I have lots of stuff I wanted to enjoy this weekend, it is supposed to be beautiful.
About the Liatris, they are definitely a 'Wild' flower. They look kinds funny where I have them because I just had to get the planted and that was a spot that I had at the time. That fence is 4' tall so you can get an idea of how tall they are.. I've tried a few different seeds of various button type Liatris - aspera, novae angliae, scariosa, ligulistylis. I am pretty sure the ones the Monarchs are all over are the L. ligulistylis, because those are the only ones I've seen listed as being able to get that tall. I have sandy soil and usually just mix composted manure into the soil when making a bed. I think that made them more lanky and leaning the first couple years but this year they seemed to do pretty well.
cool shot meredith
Awesome! Meredith!!!!
Good to know about the type of liatris you planted, Meredith. Most of my gardening has had by necessity to be about amending the sandy soil here or nothing grows, especially from seed.
Lovely shot Meedith, love it when there are more than one!!
Liatris is growing fine here.
Love the liatris. Used to be called "gay feather" years ago. We have it, but the variety in our gardens is done in August. Love that it blooms from the bottom up.
There is the new england variety which we grow & a horticultural developed variety.
nice shots Celeste ... nice bright color to start our days
Thanks!
Hurray for the extended bloom! I hadn't considered a raspberry colored toad lily. The lavender ones match the rampant wild New England Asters, but a contrast would be nice.
Marilyn I love that sage. I have Pin.Sag,Golden Delisious onmy wish list
Robin your Pineapple sage is beautiful!
