My bush beans went through a period where the pods formed but did not develop beans inside. Could this have been caused by lack of pollination or what else might be the problem?
green beans not filling out
Heat?
I thought that heat might have been another possibility. Has this happened to you or any one else out there. If it is heat, would it do any good to shade the plants? Also, at what temperature do you think there might be a problem?
probably steady 100+ for weeks.
Not sure were Mountain Ranch, CA is so have no idea what your climate is like there or if its abnormal this year.
but seeds not forming sounds like a polination issue.
Thanks for your replies, Easybake, I am located up the hill from Mountain Ranch in the Sierra Nevada foothills (2800 ft). It hasn't gotten past the nineties all summer. I have noticed a distinct absence of bees this year and have had a problem with pollination in some of my other veggies. Perhaps that is the culprit.
Ah low 90s all summer? sounds nice.
CCD is still an ongoing issue [Colony Collapse Disorder] is a world wide problem that been going on for a few years now that may be part of your problem.
perhaps you can hand polinate them
