Wow Jmorth those Asters make a great backdrop of color for you butterflies, so beautifully bright, just jumps out at ya when you hit enlarge. Great shots.

Winter Springs, FL(Zone 9b)

VA wild, you sure do have quite a variety of butterflies. Maybe I should take my camera on my walks, but then I might be stopping more than walking...lol. Very nice shots.

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

I agreed with sunkissed, those asters looks very alluring. I've spotted a RSP I think.

I think this is a cloudless sulphur chrysalis. I noticed it this morning on my runt plumeria. I found it about 10 feet away from my cassia alata. This is my first year with this plant and I was hoping to lure in some sulphurs with it.

Whoa!!! That's one 'purdy' chrysalis you've gotten there Russell.

Gulf Fritillary in the garden. I saw a pair flitting, then more eggs hatched into small tinies caterpillars here and there. I'm keeping roughly a half dozen cats. indoor.

Cool!

My last Monarch hasn't eclosed yet....don't know if it will now or not.

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Yours may wait until spring to eclose, Nan. I'm still Monarch-less here. sniff sniff. I did see two clearwinged hawk moths on the butterfly bush today also beside a few sulphurs flitting around.

Portland, TX(Zone 9b)

Nice GF, Lily! I haven't seen many of those this year. The passion vine is blooming, not sure why they can't find it. I suppose it could have something to do with all of green anoles that have taken up residence there....maybe they are eating all of the GF cats.

Anole? Who, little me? LOL. Russell, those little ones are here too. I noticed this year my G.F. butterflies chose the vines that climbs up a cherry tree -- away from shrubery where these fellas frequent. That said, I did rescue a few caterpillars and kept them safe.

It took me a while to find Waldo in that shot. Keep those photos coming. We should have some good growth coming in the next week or so, we actually got some rain along the Texas coast this weekend! That is the first wet stuff I have seen since July 27th. It wasn't a drought buster, but the plants sure enjoy it.

lol Kim, you got me with that pic. I was looking for a caterpillar, not an anole.
Russell, you Sulfur chrysalis is really neat looking. I like the color of it.
Jmorth, you have some really nice shots, you seem to get a lot of butterflies your way?
Your poor buttterfly went through a lot, Nanny. It's a cruel world out there for them.
Well my BST caterpillar had a hard fall today. The potted plant, he was on, fell of the balcony. He was still on the parsley, when I went and got it. I don't know, how it will affect him. He's isn't eating , and seem to be wandering around. I set up a few sticks in the new home, along with some sprig of parsley, and hoping he's searching for a place to pupate.

burn, lots of butterflies in late summer/early fall due to several rather large clumps of New England Aster (5 - 6' tall); these plants always attract large numbers of flying creatures, especially butterflies and bees.

I have seen more butterflies in the last week or so than I have all summer! All different kinds! They must be migrating.

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

^_^ Burn, sorry I "got" you on that one. lol. Hopefully your BST will be just fine. The environment out there is really rough on them. J those New England Asters are tucking at my heart's string. I was quite blue thinking I couldn't plant them down here. But a trip to my Northern county's Botanical garden has changed my mind about them. Now, it's a matter of me finding them from local nursery. lol Crit, I'm glad to hear that the number of butterflies has increased last week or so for you. I didn't get enough, not near enough in my garden. So I went to a Botanical garden to have my Butterflies fix yesterday. lol There in their enclosed 'butterflies house' I get to see this beauty in person for the first time.

Hello friends its been a while, with work keeping me very busy I have not have much time for my hobbies. The garden is absolutely teaming with butterflies. Most if not all my host plants have been depleted. Lots of cleanup to do so my next few weekends will be booked up. I am attaching a few pics, hopefully I had not posted these yet.

Great shots Viceroy, my garden has tons of butterflies now also, but I've had such a hard time getting photos of them, they are so active and just going from one flower to another...but I'll keep on trying. Are you going to attend the central Florida Round up in October?

I finally got a chance to take my camera into the garden--found this little jewel under the eaves of the greenhouse--don't get a chance to see many in the wild.

Bruce, the Monarch chrysalis is beautiful. Poor fella pushing along with his timing for Mexico is a long way away. I had a BST that eclosed sometimes last night. Temp. didn't pass the 70'ish indicator today, and the butterfly could not fly away. I found it in the shrub and waiting out the rain and chills.

Sunkissed thanks for the info too early to tell if I can make it. Glad to hear your garden is doing well! Hope it is more wll kept than mine is, let me know if you want to volunteer on a free weekend (lol)

Lovely shots Viceroy. Hope your beauties, finds some host plants somewhere, to reproduce.

Kim that's a nice butterfly.

Jmorth, thanks for letting me know, about what attracts your butterflies to your yard. I have the dark pink Asters about 3' tall, just coming into blooms. But our temps are going down fast. We had our first frost, last night.

You found a neat jewel there Bruce, And your cat looks nice and plump.

My BST cat, that had an accident a few days ago, has form his Chrysalis today. Will have to wait till next year, to see, if he'll emerge ok.

Divernon, IL(Zone 5b)

Wow, 1st frost, I envy you not burn; it dropped to 37° last week, but is on an upswing now.
I think I can assume the Monarch migration has reached central Illinois as evidenced by the following pics taken this afternoon.

jmorth, I have 25 tags left and I haven't seen a monarch for several days--I should have mailed them to you! Beautiful photos, and I am glad to see all the monarchs--gives me hopes for a good 2012 season.
