Clematis! Badly injured stock

I got my plants that I had ordered from brighter blooms.com. Sadly they are in terrible shape. Most have breaks in their stems not much more than 5 inches up, they broke having no support. They were fastened soooo poorly to worthless tresses with other breaks and pinches in almost every stem. One stem is tied to a tress with a metal twisty. What should I do, mend it or cut it all the way back? Start new. Try to. Thanks all
