I know this is a bird forum, but I forgot which one to go to identify this animal, is it a garter snake or something more dangerous? I took this close a picture and it did not seem to be agressive, so I am thinking it might be a garter, if so, he can eat all the crickets he can catch!

If I remember right, round eye = safe, vertical slit-eye = venomous, so this one's safe.

Thanks Resin, I appreciate the info, as I said before I am sorry it was not a bird or flower, but just wanted to make sure.

Wow, I got behind again and there are so many great photos-well done everyone!

I was sitting close to this fountain and photographing a hummer enjoying the water when this chipmunk jumped up, looked at me and proceeded to drink some water.

My crows are really starting to molt but I do really like these birds, especially because they chase off the hawks and keep my smaller birds safe.

It looks like my Western Scrub Jays are still producing young. This one showed up with another juvenile to get some nuts.

Here's one of my younger orioles waiting for me to move away from a feeder.

Lily, to answer your question on the white pelicans, some of them are here year round depending on how much bait fish are in the lake and we have read that the fish are just now beginning to show up. That means we'll be seeing more pelicans, egrets and herons-yahoo! Sorry I can't say exactly where these pelicans have been.

The berries are beginning to turn colors on my Virginia Creeper and this Calif. Thrasher is taking advantage early.

Got a new bird today. How about a Road Runner? And for those inclined to ask, no, it didn't say "Beep Beep".

Great pics, all! I haven't been on DG much recently, nor have I been taking any bird pics in this triple digit heat. I'm heading back to the mountains this w/e. The San Juans of SW Colorado for 6 days and then a couple of nights in Santa Fe on the way home. Maybe I'll see something interesting out there.

Here's a ringneck from the archives. I processed it with Photomatix Pro and gave it a painterly effect.

Wonderful, wonderful photos everyone. So enjoyed seeing all your different birds. I don't have many different birds now. The orioles have left. I saw one humming bird this morning, a tiny Caliope, still tasting the flowers and checking to see that there is still nectar in the feeder. thanks everyone for sending along the different bird photos.
