Why do my tomatoes' skin crack at the top or in a line around the circumference ?
tomatoes cracking
They crack from irregular watering. If you get too much rain or too little rain and not getting the same amount of water every day
to flowajen regarding tomatoe cracking. I thought it may have something to do with water...too much?...to little? The whole gaden is set-up on an automatic system with drip hose. Maybe I should decrease the flow?
Maybe it's getting too dried out between waterings? Are they in the ground or containers?
Some varieties crack easier then others.
Your problem may be inconsistent moisture level--if the soil alternates between getting a little too dry and then getting soaked that can cause it. You might try watering a little less at one time but a little more frequently and see if that helps keep the moisture a little more consistent. But as 1lisac pointed out some varieties are more prone to cracking than others so for next year you might look for varieties that don't crack as easily.
My cherries are cracking too. Too much water I think. Thanks Irene you (censored!)
