Fast growing ground cover for back yard.

Gladstone, VA

I am getting up in age and do not want to mow the back yard any more. The yard seems to slope more and more each year. I am looking for a fast growing ground cover which will grow year round. I live in Central Virginia. Any and all suggestions gladly received and researched. Thank you for your help.

Do you want to be able to walk on it? or is simply for irragation, or to just cover the sloping?

Pachysandra is a nice groundcover that spreads fairly quickly after the 2nd year and will do ok in partial sun/shade.

However, you know, I was faced with this same problem...I found out that getting a groundcover established and keeping it weeded and tidy was a lot more work than just mowing grass. No matter what you plant, you'll get weeds in it and then, since it's one big patch of one kind of plant, invariably you get some sort of bug or disease that starts eating it... *lol*.... Maybe you could consider getting somebody to mow the grass for you? (That's what kids and grandkids are for *lol*)
