What are some fruits to begin gardening with

Fort Worth, TX

I am a beginner gardener and am looking for some fruits to start with

Vicksburg, MS(Zone 8a)

Fruit trees require a lot of care so I'd start with smaller plants and shrub types. I have blueberries (Rabbiteye grows best here in the south). Two types will be needed for good pollination. I chose Tifblue and Rabbiteye because they are listed as being among the sweeter blueberries. Figs also are a good choice--I have Texas Everbearing (small but very sweet) and Brown Turkey. Strawberries and blackberries would also be good beginner choices.

Paradise, CA(Zone 9a)

For trees, if you have the space and want to try them, fig, apple, pear, plum, and cherry trees seem to put up with a lot of stress and still produce delicious fruit. I'm not sure of your zone, but Loquat is another that is easy and interesting, something you don't find at most grocery stores. The fruit tastes similar to an apricot and trees have huge glossy leaves. I would stay clear of Peaches and Nectarines for sure until you are more comfortable gardening, as they are very high maintenance fruit trees in my experience.

Ellicott City, MD(Zone 7b)

Meyer Lemon trees are said to be very easy to grow. They are popular with beginners because they're easy to take care of. I have one and it's doing very well and has several large fruits on it that are currently ripening. Mine is outdoor in spring-summer but an indoor plant in fall-winter because I'm in Zone 7 and it's too cold outside, but it's done perfectly fine in spite of that.
