Morning Glories 2011 #12

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Debra - WOW! Nice show of blooms! I am enjoying every one of them! I love your arbor view! Looks so lush in your yard! Have you been getting rain? That rabbit caught in the act is too cute!

Looking at the water lilies, it appears you have at least 2 different cultivars. No idea what the bloom colors will be until they actually produce flowers, but I am happy to see that you did get two that were different. Though they could both have yellow blooms. Very, very nice! Thanks for posting all your wonderful photos! I look forward to more! :-)

Edited to add: This one is really beautiful! http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=8751404

thanks Becky, we just got rain about two days in a row, so that helped. only 89 today, 93 for tommorrow, so hopefully will not go higher than that.

all my tubs of seeds per person are still vining, can't wait to see what they bring..

Debra - Beautiful blooms in the above photo! :-) Are you growing them along your fence?

So glad to hear you got rain and your temps are staying lower. It sure has been a hot summer!

I had a down pour again today! The good thing about the rain is that the plants seem to love the acid in the rain and I don't have to hand water everything! Always a plus! :-) :-) :-) I am only having a problem with two species of plants because of the rain .... the nils are getting rust and my watermelons are splitting because of all the rain! But the rest of my yard and plants are loving it! I'll be starting some more seeds indoors under lights soon.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

supposed to get a hail , wind rain storm tommorrow.. can't wait LOL hope the hail stays in Wichita and not in Derby..

your gardens look awsome this year Becky, but they always do..

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Thank you, Debra!

Yikes! I hope the hail stays away from your yard, too! The rain will be welcome by your plants, no doubt! And I am keeping you in my prayers for NO tornadoes, too!

Gautier, MS

Beautiful blooms Debra!! Loved to see all your mgs, your plants and garden look great!! Glad you got rain too, we had a good rain storm yesterday too.

Just repeat blooms here.

What causes splits in flower?

Pretty blooms Debra. Love the shot of the bunny.
We have had rain all this week and was much needed. We also had the hail and high winds. I'm just lucky it didn't destroy my glories. Our high yesterday was 75 degrees. Our temps
headed down and I hope thats the end of the 100+ temps. Our summer has been ruined by the excessive
heat.
Great blooms Helena.
Lovely bloom Linda. I don;t know what causes the splits. I wonder if it's something to do with the moisture.
I;ve had more than my share of split blooms and deformed blooms.

This is Debra's beautiful purple/red thats growing on my fence, left most bloom. The bloom
on the right is my Xiong's Chinese. I had pulled off Debras bloom while trying to pose it and decided to make a comparison shot of her bloom and my Xiong's. Virtually no difference between the 2 so I would bet
money these are both Xiong's. They each have variegated lvs too.

This no Mai is the one that started out with the unusual blooms that looked nothing like no Mai.
The last few blooms have been more typical.

beautiful colors there in those blooms, Jackie. Gosh that storm last night passed us by, as it did today.

I get a lot of splits and every other bloom weird looking, that is okay with me.

I am hoping to see some other kinds of blooms here before next sunday. I really do not remember if xiongs had varigated leaves, but they are sure pretty!

I am a sucker for varigated leaves.

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Helena - Sweet pink bloom! Glad many here are getting rain! It's been a long hot summer!

Linda - That's a good question! Probably a number of things can cause a split bloom. A windy day. A bug. Watering a plant. Accidentally tearing the bloom when touching it. Or it could be a genetic cause. A mutation. I get split watermelons when they get too much water and direct sun on the fruit.

Jackie - That's a neat comparison between Debra's bloom and the Xiong's bloom. Nice dark lavender color on the first bloom. I really like the color and the stripes on the last one! Very unusual! You are getting crosses galore! And they are also so lovely!

Debra - One of my favorite I. nil leaves is the Pink Silk leaves. They are large variegated heart-shaped leaves! I think Jackie is growing one this year? And maybe Helena?

Debra, You are right about the variegated lvs. My Xiongs;' in 09 did not have varieg lvs. My new vine
started from my 09 sds does have them. A cross there somewhere.
Debra, lol I agree about the splits and deformed blooms. Gosh can you tell Debra and I are just happy to have any blooms.
Heres a pic from my 09 Xiong's..

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

rain all around us , gee, it is just missing us by a few miles.. GRRRRR oh wells... moon vine has buds, I hope they open before I leave..

Gautier, MS

Beautiful blooms Jackie. Happy your getting lots of blooms now!

Thanks Jackie and Becky. I am growing a Rose Silk cross (a very light pink Ip. nil) that has heart shaped leaves.

Here's one broom Emma's 2010 swap.

Pink Porcelain blizzard, one of my favorite!!

A bunny in the garden, I've got a couple of mice I found yesterday... they have eaten/killed some of the Mexican sunflower Tithonias.

Here are a couple of pandurata seedlings doing well so far, one is about a year old and the other three are this year's seedlings, all growing in a pot surrounded by a I. nil

Here are the macrorhiza seedlings, they look so healthy, hopefully they stay that way.

beautiful colors, Helena. A. your seedlings look great!

Thank you Debra,

You all have some pretty outstanding blooms,

Helena that Black King, Blue Purple Blizzard and the NOID, have knocked my socks off. Just gorgeous, your photos are also outstanding.

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Becky, I will check my Pink Silk lvs. I'm thinking my Pink Silk vine is looking pretty rough.
Can't help but notice that my vines that look the best are the
ones in the big tub and the ones planted in the larger pots, 2 vines to a pot.

This is the Saz with the Xiongs in the same pot. Notice plain green and varieg lvs Even though the cats
have munched on the lvs, they still look better than my one to a pot vines.

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Helena, love your blooms, a beautiful shade of blue from Emmas seeds. Your Porcelain Pink
Blizzard is a beauty.

Gourd, your pandy seedlings look just great, so do your macrorhizas. I've got one of those up too. I
think macrorhiza might be hardy here but afraid to risk it.

Your bloom is gorgeous Debra.

My Pink Tie Dye finally bloomed I love this one

Thumbnail by patootie
(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

oh that pink tye dye is beautiful! I don't think plants per pot really count for health, do they? If so< I am in trouble..

szarvas, Hungary

Jackie, that one ... rare color !
http://pics.davesgarden.com/pics/2011/08/13/patootie/efd8ab.jpg
Is it a cross of yours ?

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Debra. Its not how many plants in the pot. Its the size of the pot providing plenty of root room so the vines aren't stressed, more water and nutrients, etc. My vines in the 1 gal pots stay stressed so their leaves are ugly
The larger pots even with 2 vines planted in each one are still healthier.
Heres a pic Ive already sent. See how healthy the lvs are

Thumbnail by patootie
Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Now heres a vine in a 1 gallon, lvs looking horrible.
This is Beckys Pink Silk, gorgeous bloom, ratty lvs.
Look at the bare stem down near the bottom. I just keep picking off all the lvs, I
don't want them in the pic. So I''ll be growing more of mine in the larger pots next yr.

Thumbnail by patootie
Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Dany, that could be a cross. If it is, I didn't do it, the bees did it. :-)
These are from my Prettiest Saz sds harvested last yr. I took 3 pics, they all look the same color.
This is growing in the same pot as my Xiong;s, 2 different type lvs showing. Varieg. Saz and plain green Xiong's.

Wow! I babysit my granddaughter and come back and see all these beautiful blooms! Y'all are rocking the house with these MGs!

Helena - Love your pink porcelain blizzard!

Debra - The one you posted above it gorgeous! Do you know the name?

A - Sorry to hear about the mice problem. Try sprinkling pepper around your plants or get a cat! LOL! Love your container of baby pandy's and the beautiful youjiro vine and blooms! :-)

Jackie - I agree with Dany! I love that blue saz cross! Looks like it could've crossed with your Fuji no Sora cross? And your Pink Tie dye is beautiful! Never seen a pink one before!!! Cool!

I hear ya about the size of the containers. My vines always do so much better in the 5 gallon bucket vs. the 1 gallon nursery pots. I always get the rust and stressed leaves in the smaller containers pretty quick. But ... when I grow them indoors, I don't have that problem and I am using only 32 oz. cups. Not a large container. Granted that the blooms and vines are smaller. But the foliage stays nice despite the root room. Go figure!

I was going to post some of my indoor bloom photos, but it's getting late. I am babysitting tomorrow for my teacher. Babysat my granddaughter today! She is walking! Yeehaw!!! I'll post the bloom photos tomorrow sometime!

Linda - Beautiful blooms! Love those speckles! ;-)

Helena - The DFNM cross is wonderful! Amazing how many rays it has! And the size is just too sweet! I love that blue no ID too! Pink rayed reminds me a little of Kawata, without the blizzard effect! Lovely Rebecca bloom, too!

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Great blooms Linda and Helena.
