Hi, im new to these forums but I did not sign up to ask questions about gardening. I have a question that has really been bothering me lately and was wondering if anyone on here with professional plant knowledge could help me out. Several years ago, my father brought home a Dracaena Tree from the office. (Apparently it was an office plant no one wanted.) And now suddenly, a stem has recently poped out of the trunk and a little white flower with about 5 pedals has bloomed on it. Not only that, it has filled the entire kitchen with the smell of roses! Is this normal for a Dracaena tree? And if so, then how can I get it to bloom more of these flowers? (By the way, I have been been giving it the same treatement for years, and without the use of any chemicals.)
Thanks!
Is this normal?
They do bloom--but as houseplants they often don't get the right conditions (not enough light, etc) so people can have them for years and years and never see a bloom. Obviously the location and care you've been giving it have been the right conditions, so I'd keep doing what you're doing and hopefully it'll bloom periodically for you.
I agree that you are obviously have the right conditions for your plant, so you must continue in that way, all I can add is that now that the plant has flowered (like all plants they usually flower once a year) the next year you may get even more flowers, now that the plant has been in flower think you should re-pot it if required and offer some liquid feed half strength to give it some energy used up with flowering, like some plants too, they go from strength to strength once they reach maturity and flower, keep the leaves dust free and give good light but not direct sunlight and in really hot weather mist the leaves, however it would seem whatever your doing it loves you for it. If you have any Botanical gardens in your area then they might be able to help better, hope so. Good luck and well done. WeeNel.
This link gives you images of Dracaenas in bloom.
