One of my raised gardens is very low on soil (using Mel's mix). It is mostly empty of because of the heat here in Texas, so before I plant my fall crop I want to add a few inches to the bed. The problem is that I have Fall watermelons that are doing great (climbing up a trellis) in the bed. Does anyone know if it would hurt the melons if I covered up the bottom few inches of the vines with the mix (leaving the vines going up the trellis undisturbed)? Thank you.
Adding garden mix over watermelon vines
I would add the soil but keep it a couple of inches from the vine. When watering it could start rotting the bottom of your vines.
