Little gray bugs killing my zucchini

Clifton Hill, MO

What are these bugs and how do I get rid of them before they get another plant? Thanks for your help!

I'm interested in the response as well; I've got these little bugs as well...

Do they look like any of these?

If so, they are squash bugs. I had a horrible infestation earlier. I sprayed them with soap/water. It took several applications, but it took care of the problem. Other people may have other suggestions as to how to get rid of them.

I am interested in this too. They have completely wiped out my zucchini, yellow squash, pumpkins and are working on my cantaloupes and cucumbers. is there anything that i can do to my dead garden this fall to help them not come back next year?

There are a few posts on this thread that may help.

Wer-the only way that will help reduce the numbers next year is to kill the ones this year. So they don't have a chance to reproduce and start their life cycle again. You may still have some next year but not as many. You can also destroy their eggs which they lay on the underside of the leaves. I'm not organic so I usually spray an insecticide, that's ok for veggies. I usually only have to apply it 2-3 times a season, we have a very long season.

Some of the pic's I looked at resemble Stink Bug's we had a Proliferation of them in Southern New Jersey Last Year. They were covering houses, and of course Killing Zucchini, they're not as bad this year, Hopefully they don't come back, it's odd to see one Insect covering so many states. I do Grow Organically lisa, and I spray my Plant's with a Mint Tea, it seem's to work. Other than the Stink bug's I haven't had any Insect Problem's though. Each of the Four Garden's has a Mint Bush, a Basil Bush, and the Marigold's. So Far so Good. I've had a few Moles, and one Nasty Gopher, who in the beginning of the season, tearing up the root's in the new experimental garden, who was swiftly dispatched to meet his forefathers in the netherworld.

I have been blessed. For two years in a row, I have not had an insect problem. Not even a tomato worm or a stink bug. Even the slugs have disappeared. All I had were a few aphids, early.

OK Jim would you like a trip to Scotland where I have had infestation of most bugs this year (perhaps your bugs took a trip over here when they heard it would be a cold summer ha ha ha. I've had greenfly, everywhere, Black-fly on the runner beans Tips of the plants as always, earwigs eating the Dahlias that never came to much, infestation of the dreaded Red Spider Mites that got indoors inside my conservatory from a plant I got as a gift, now treating the hole lot of the indoor plants with a tiny little wasp that eats only the Mites so fingers crosses as I hate those bugs, the damage is well done before you notice the webs they make, then we had cabbage white butter-flies that managed to chomp their way through the first planting so second planting was quickly covered with the white horticultural fleece and all is well once again. This has been a funny old weather year for folks all over the world and can only hope it improves for the following year.
Happy gardening and lets hope the bugs stay well clear of your plot eh !!!!. WeeNel.

If you had a cool summer, I wish I had followed the bugs. Our temps hit 100 on June 1 and stayed there until late September. The hottest day hit 107.
