Help, after working with 4 Seasons for almost 60 days, I have finally receive replacement plants. I have almost $200 worth of plants but I am afraid that it is way to late to plant them. We are experiencing unusually high temps in Zone 5 (over 100 most days).
I have received bare root plants, a few bulbs and dormant plants. I have planted most of the dormant plants, but after 1 day, three are already dead, (but those are probably my fault as I didn't get them watered right away).
My question is, should I try and store the bare root plants and the bulbs and plant them in the fall or spring, or should I just go for it and hope for the best. I sure hate to not only waste the money, but the time invested in planting doomed plants.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I can send a list of what the plants are, if that makes a difference in the advice
Is it too late for summer planting??
The bare root plants definitely need to be planted in something, you can't just leave them as-is. Given your weather conditions I'd plant them in pots and hold them like that until you get cooler weather in the fall. With the bulbs, if they're spring-blooming bulbs that you'd normally plant in fall then I'd hold on to them and plant them in the fall--keep them somewhere cool & dry until then.
Sounds good ecrane. The plants you put in pots do not put in full sun. It could burn them up in a few hours.
What a disappointing thing to have happen with all those plants! I hope you can get all or most of what you have left to survive. We're having the same horrible 100s here too but I haven't let it stop me from buying late summer clearance plants from some of our stores. I've got them all potted and sitting on my front porch where they get only bright light, no direct sun, and all are looking great (some are even blooming and the bees and butterflies have found them). I will put them all out in mid to late September. I've done this many times before and have lost very few of the many plants I've planted. The ones I did lose were because I planted them in a place that I didn't realize held water and we had a very wet winter so it was really my fault.
