Carrots not growing very well

What are the best carrots to plant in Central Texas? I have raised beds and last year my carrots were deformed and small although they were weeded and the soil was loose without rocks, etc. According to the package, they should have been larger. This year I got Tendersweet from Gurney's in the seed tapes and they are truly finger size - tiny. I want them mainly for juicing but also do use them in cooking but these Tendersweet are way too small. Any suggestions? I also probably planted too late into the year and so have had to fight the heat. I want to do a fall planting.
