I'm pretty sure this is a Japanese iris but I'm wondering if it is specifically iris sanguinea (Blood Iris). It looks like one. But from what I've gathered, they are not supposed to grow in my area (Connecticut) at this time of year or in shade. This iris grew spontaneously in my front garden, in early June. It is in partial shade, under a big Magnolia tree. Am I wrong about the species or is this little guy just lost? Thanks for your help!
Is this a Blood Iris? Found in CT in June
In looking at the US Plants profile database, they show it native to North Carolina and no other state...but we all know about Pass along plants...this image is from UCBerkley Cal Photo database and save for color looks remarkably similar.
