Is it too late for my Young lobelia to flower this year?

manchester, United Kingdom

I sowed these lobelia seeds in late may and now they 2months old and 3" tall. Im in NWuk. I also sowed some other types inc dahlia, aster, poppies, and they are all the same height except for nasturtiums which are now about 3 foot tall. As we are now well into summer, how much more will these lobelia grow? I think i sowed too late. Will they flower this year or could i overwinter them so they will flower next spring? This is my first time sowing seeds and i dont know what i should do now. I have a container garden. Are these annuals as some say they are and some say perennials. If they are perennials they will be good next year i suppose but what about annuals- will they survive til next spring if i make sure i dont let it flower by picking heads off? Any advice will be good. Thanks

In general it takes about 11-12 weeks for Lobelia plants to bloom after starting from seed, so you still have time for them to bloom.

Here is a bit more info for you.

Hi Jenzuk, I live in UK also and some seeds must have got spread by the birds or wind and they are just about to flower withing the week, so you have some time left to enjoy them, they normally flower right up till the really cold frost kills them in mid autumn.

Not too sure if you know but the Lobelia plants we see / buy in the stores are actually little clumps of plants, when you grow Lobelia you plant a small pinch of seed in each plant cell / pot, this is because the Lobelia is like a little strand of a plant and you need a bunch of them together so you can see them.
I never knew this the first time I grew the seeds and was so mad at my Dad when he killed himself laughing, I had planted out each individual plant and they looked like an accident about to happen yet, I was so pleased with myself, never made this mistake again however, I have never ever read on any Lobelia seed packet that you need to grow these seeds in little pinches like you were adding a pinch of salt to food, hope this helps you out as your plants look really goo and healthy. good luck. WeeNel.
