Lantana

Gorman, NC

I have a lovely lantana that is producing beautiful foliage but no flowers. It had a few flowers when I purchased it but none since. I've planted it in the same pot in the same place as last year's plant which was very prolific. Thanks.

Do you fertilize your lantana, and if so how often? I have found that fertilizing them more than just once in the spring tends to produce happy plants with tons of foliage and very few blooms. After the first flush of blooms, I cut my lantana back a bit and they usually respond with a new flush of blooms in a few weeks. Lantana blooms on new growth rather than older growth, so a bit of deadheading to remove seeds and spent blooms will encourage more blooms.

I just recently fertilized it for the first time about a week ago. I'll try deadheading it. The only flowers that appeared were those on the plant when I first purchased it. Thanks for the advice.

I think you will find it will bloom quite happily when it has some new growth. good luck to you.
