Wow, you must live in an expensive neighborhood Victor!
I use coupons whenever I can, (usually when I remember to bring them along..). The supermarkets and the car repairs take coupons, along with some other places..
Just a few days ago I bought 4 new tires, I checked out the store website first and found out they had a coupon for the tire balancing and the valve stems. It took $66 off the price they quoted me over the phone when I went to the shop to buy them. - every little bit helps.. ☺
Money Matters - Part 7
- Don't worry, 'the big guy' is making a speech this week about a massive job stimulus package, that should fix things up...
Ha! You missed the joke. ^_^
- Ahhh, okay, it was due to the Disney taking over Times Square effect... ☺
- Just heard it on the radio 15 min ago, they're in big trouble.
They've begged for years to cut some delivery days. Now what? I guess this'll cut some delivery days...
Maybe one day per month??
Jezz...
How long did it take them to discover this?
"billions of dollars that management says it overpaid to its employees’ pension funds"
A lot of it sounds like mismanagement to me....a friend of ours worked in management till about 2 years ago and they didn't renew his contract but before leaving he told us they would hold their annual mtg in Puerto Rico every year.....Great cost cutting measures, huh?
big guy? i heard the speech was moved again due to a conflict with re-runs of I Dream of Genie.
Well the PO has to do what no other agency has to - pre-fund the workers' pension fund. Take note of this because every other public pension fund is grossly underfunded (and overpromised). We just won't hear about it until the 11th hour.
My bro is a union rep in the PO. He said that without that mandate, they would be in the black. The crap about email is BS. They make enough on parcels.
Yeah, why they heck did they agree to THAT??? prefund pensions???? Crazy!!!!!
Uh oh - NYT to lead tomorrow with a story about a major Euro bank about to fail and the panic that will follow. Wonderful.
Luckily, not that bad. The article is about the worry that one might fail, not that a failure is imminent. Whew!
WHew!
Bank of America may lay off 40,000 people! Yikes.
uuuggghhh- hate the bank but sorry for the people.
Whenever a big company lays off that many people we all get closer to a double dip.
Yes - that bank is the pits but the employees pay the price.
That's 40k more that will tighten their belts..
Wow - the ten year treasury bond ended with the lowest yield since at least the 40's, and maybe ever!
uuuuggghhhh
I just don't understand how we can "owe" trillions but choose to spend more money for job creation.
When my wallet is empty I cannot get my McD iced tea. I just can't.
I have the same questions, Sally. I would like to say more, but would be censored.
Nuff said, Jan.
Meanwhile, I theoretically saved 40 bucks off 180 (!!!) at the grocery store by having their 'card' and getting their sales prices and reduced price on some "freeze or use today" meat. Meats on sale that didn't all sell for the holiday. I have become committed to smarter shopping as that is one way I can really slow down money going out the window.
Was walking down the isle of the supermarket today to the peanut section so I can buy some unsalted peanuts for the birds outside. Passed by this lady who was well dressed, looked like she stopped in after work. She was looking at a loaf of bread and just kept saying $3.19... $3.19..., when I got to the end of the isle I saw she put it back.
On the way home I passed the gas station, all I could say was $4.01... $4.01...
must be some type of contagious syndrome.
LOL, WC.
I do that a lot, Sally. I like getting a $2 discount off a $5 package of meat. The other day, I ended up with 18 meals' worth of meat for $30. It took a little while to package it up for the freezer, but well worth it.
I just joined the fitness center in town. $49 registration and $10/month. Didn't have to join for a whole year either. Had a guy show me around at all the different machines, so I can kinda look like I know what I'm doing and went back this morning for an hour. My DIL takes some classes there so that will help get me motivated. I'm looking forward to this. I need to tone up. I've lost 20 lbs and sooo don't want to regress. I want to make it a healthy habit. I felt the money was worth it.
Good for you Jan!!!!!
I was in BJ's the other day and I usually buy the big bag of Dunkin Donuts coffee...it's up to $23!!!!!!!!!! Used to be $18...walking down the aisle $23? $23?
Coffee has gone through the roof lately!
For me its the favorite Betty Crocker muffin mixes. Target and Weis few years ago...used to put them on sale sometimes just over 2$.
Last time at Giant--- 3.49? 3.49?
I'm no coffee gourmet- Aldi donut coffee has gone up but I think still under 5 $ for the regular size small (11? 12? oz) and coffee bags surely used to be 16 oz.
New goal-- to learn to bake bread, or learn to not eat bread.
We have a new fitness place- they seem to be all over and very price competitive. Think about it- tons of equipment and low staff needs, and just clean the lockers..
I'll start a new thread.
