Money Matters - Part 7
No cell phone inusrance here.
The yo-yo continues! Buy Mon, sell Tue, buy Wed, sell Thu...^_^
It IS legalize gambling.
The furnace guys just left. A little over 3 hours and they were very neat, friendly and efficient. Great job! I will give them a good review on Angie's List now.
Now I have to fill out lots of paperwork for rebates, grants and loans. All worth the effort to get the house more energy efficient.

I LOVE Google!
Google loves Motorola!
.. and Blue Horseshoe Loves Blue Star (lol)
Hate Google! They are the creepiest company ever.
I only HATE that Google has kept a record of absolutely every search of mine (and yours) from Day 1.
That's minor compared to all their other intrusions and invasions.
Those must be under my poor-quality personal radar...
and the ceo is a little crazy.... I use Bing or ask
And it's back! But that was a little scary, I will admit.
What now?
Exactly my thoughts, YankeeCat!!!!!
You know I swear nickels are lighter too
Italy debt to GDP ratio something like 180%. We should all go and eat all their food and drink all their wine.
Hoard nickels ! I'm surprised to see them weigh the same.
LOL! I'd need a truck to carry them around! ☺
- Yes I was surprised they were the same weight too. The scale is extremely sensitive, breathing on it will change the reading. The coins were handled with cotton gloves to eliminate the possibility of skin oils giving an incorrect reading.
Actually I have a med sized coin collection, (international), but my most valuable is my vintage gold watch collection I started about 10yrs ago, with the price of gold now over $1700/ ounce, - well, they would turn over a pretty penny..
The problem with me and collections is that I collect things that I like. So unless I was really desperate parting with them would be out of the question. I should have collected things I dont like, that way I could sell them and make a profit.
... but then that would ruin the fun for me. ☺
Early 1940's gold, including the hands & numerals.
( I have the papers with the exact year, but I'm too lazy to find them now.. lol!)
Lovely watch. Good point about collecting what you love!
Thanks, ☺
My appraiser friend and his wife left this afternoon. They spent 5 hrs last nig and that many or more today looking through mom's things. I learned any things. It was interesting to hear their exclamations over different things. It will be interesting to get their report.
She showed Jeff where to go online to check out coins. We have a bunch of silver quarters, etc.
They recommended we take a painting to Freeman's in Philadelphia to get it checked out better.
I am kinda overwhelmed.
wow Jan that sounds exciting. My appraiser was not an expert on anything- he put yard sale values on everything which was fine for us. I didn't think we had any Monets in the closet.
The most expensive thing I ever gave Mom was a Lladro figurine- and the bird was broken and glued back- forget that. The Snowbabies figurines that I thought were collectible, are not so much.
Thanks, Sally. It is. They drove down from Monmouth County in NJ and stayed overnight with us. I went to youth group with him.
One of their suggestions was for me to get a little booth at a coop for some of the things that aren't too dear. They said there would be a higher price than if it was in an auction. Not really sure that's something I would want to do.
Jan, I can fully understand and empathize. I need to sell my dad's mobile home as he is in an assisted living facility now. He fell out of bed in January of this year ans got a bad concussion. They also diagnosed him with early stage Alzheimer's. He is doing well now in the ALF, but my wife and I need to get all his belonging out of the home and put it up for sale. There are companies that come and just buy things and move them out and that is what I think we have to do. Because I am disabled due to serious spine problems, my wife has been packing up some things and storing them in her parents' garage. She had been working 60 hour weeks but now that has calmed down, but the process has been long and hard. We need to get this sold soon now so I think I am going to employ someone to help us get the mobile home on the market.
This whole year has been extremely overwhelming for us with my dad, and it has been very difficult to go through all his belongings. My mom died in September 2000 and he has lived alone since then. So many things I remember from my childhood. Lots of great pictures to look at. Time to close this chapter and move on.
I know how hard this is and pray you can get this done as easily as possible.

Good thoughts coming your way. Thankfully, we aren't in a hurry. The estate is all settled. Mom lived with us and her belongings in the house are mine to do with as I may. That was the arrangement. The question comes about storage until disposal of the things so we can down-size. When they moved in with us , some of our stuff was put away in order to make room, for the 27 pieces of furniture they brought and the pitcher collection they had, etc. Now we would like to bring out our things again. :).
Hoping the pain is not as severe today.
The service engine soon light came on in my car. This time is is $800 for the ERG (or something with three initials). The place I go doesn't usually charge me to run the code - they did this time. I think that $90 is a little steep to just read the code. :(
DH just did my oil change. I'm glad he can do those.
AYC, If you go to Pep Boys or Autozone they will read the code for free and give you a good idea of what the repair will cost before you go to a mechanic. Sometimes Pep Boys can do the repair if you wish, best to shop around by phone once you know what has to be done and compare prices. - also may be a good idea to keep away from chains like Goodyear and Midas and seek out smaller garages. (you'll find out why when you start comparing prices..)
Autozone can often sell you the part necessary and you can take the part to the mechanic to install once you get a good estimate of the installation costs.
- you can save $100's that way since most often a garage will get the part at discount from the dealer and charge you dealer's price and then some to get the part in the first place.. - Just a thought. ☺
- these garages are ripping people off left & right these days, you got to shop around and defend your wallet! (lol)
Steve Jobs is stepping down. Betcha Apple drops...
news keeps saying gas prices should be going down. Well, they're wrong, it jumped $.20 today at the pumps.
Geithner talking to Diamond about buying Bank Of America, ( another 'no can fail' bank).
I'm so confused!
Why the heck is Jobs going? I agree Apple will drop.
My local gas crept down to 3 39 at my cheapest station- Don't know what I'll find today but we have a hurricane coming. But nowhere near the gulf.
I hate Bank of America, I forget why but i do. I've been happy with M and T (and have not seen them bulding fancy new brick bank branches either) I would never NOT have a local bank who knows us.
Trying to get my 18 yo DD a first credit card. She's been working (ice cream shop minimum plus tips) for over a year but no can do. Then I cosigned but my salary is tiny compared to the home eq loan, which of course i share with DH, so no can do. a 500 $ limit would be fine! Just so she could go buy her text books herself. I think they are cracking down on credit. Gone are the days of constant mailers to the kids for first credit cards.
He's been battling pancreatic cancer
Sally, she can get a 'secured' credit card. Look online for one... you put the money up front and that's what she can spend. Just DO NOT get one from Capital One!
Thanks Darius- I would look at ING first, we use them too. I hate Capital One along with Bank of Am. ( except I love the goats on the commercials)
About Steve Jobs, oh now that's sad news. Thats a really bad one.
I was in the futures market today- clearance for next summer, sandals and a skirt. Instead found two Xmas presents on clearance.
