A few July RU photos!

Southeastern, NH(Zone 5b)

I think 75 is too cold lol 82 is my ideal temp. lol I'm thin skinned.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

To get the right balance here - I eventually (after the humidity is lowered - really wish I had a de-humidify only option!) get it to about 77.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

eeehhh I like the water to be so cold.. my heart almost stops .. LOL.. can't swim in P

Huron, OH(Zone 5b)

the ocean gets that cold, Allison.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

yes and rivers for white water rafting!!!.. one time I thought my heart did stop in spring.. wow it was cold.. but had to do it anyway

Southeastern, NH(Zone 5b)

I have a very hard time getting ina lake never mind the ocean. I'm one of those wimpy people that runs in screaming and runs out even faster! lol

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Haha - courage, Meredith!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

ooohh so you were like my cousin that wouldn't go into lake george.. because there were fish in it.. and I repeatedly picked her up and threw her in.. just to watch her scream and run out

:::evil grin:::

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Cruel!

Southeastern, NH(Zone 5b)

Ha ha yes except I'm scared cuz it's cold.. the fish wouldn't bother me. I'd probably try to touch it. :) The only thing that would scare me is a jellyfish or a shark! Or a gator lol

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

85 is too warm.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Not a fan of lake water. Too funky and the bottom is always slimy.

Southeastern, NH(Zone 5b)

Doesn't matter if you've had enough cocktails. ;)

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

I don't like swimming in lakes much myself, or ponds. And swimming in an ocean bay can be really gross, too. I did that last year. Too much seaweed and lots of gross and slimy things on the bottom. I should have worn water shoes.

What kinda lakes have you been swimming in??? I grew up on a lake, the bluegills always came after your toes if you had nail polish on them, it tickled.
Before the lake was stocked with fish my dad brought a water sample to work to get it tested, they said it was so clean you could drink it

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

yeah lake george had rocks first.. then slimy plants.. then all good.. just had to go out far enough to get away from the mucky bottom.. and my cousin was the type of girl not to get her hair wet while swimming.. not rough and tumble like my sister and I

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

fresh water swimming is the best - i'll go in the ocean too although the salt is a hassle

Thomaston, CT

Talked to my grandkids home from Block Island last night....HayHay, 6, thought the ocean water was pretty warm...OMG! I can't go in ocean water til late Aug.-early Sept.

New Hampshire, NH(Zone 5b)

I grew up spending summers at my grandparents' house on Lake Champlain. I think I lived in a bathing suit and was in the water more than not. I still love swimming in lakes! Now I live on a small lake (well, across the street, but I have lake access). I don't like dealing with the salt and fine sand of the ocean either, but I'll go in if I can take a real shower right after.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

marilyn i here the ocean is 70 right now.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

most of my summers were spent in Toms River.. Joisey Shore kid.. Grandpa would take me and sis to the bays and collect seaweed for the garden while we swam

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

I read somewhere you can use baby powder to take the sand right off, I was down the shore a few weeks ago and was like "now what was I supposed to bring to get the sand off of me????" of course forgot to bring it.
Was in Bed Bath and Beyond and they have a terry cloth mitt to take the sand off....REALLY? can't I just use a terry cloth towel...they wanted $7.95 for it!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I much prefer salt water.

Isnt the ocean water warm of the tip of P-Town, Cape Cod?

Thomaston, CT

L.I. Sound is 70, but I thought the open ocean was much colder.....heck, I don't want to leave the a/c to go into a hot pool!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

We went in today. Though 84, it was still nice when the air temp is 99!

Thomaston, CT

Yes, that is so true......I miss the pool on hot nights, Garret used to go to bed much happier after a cool swim....and now he has the farm's pool to swim in....

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Yes, Bill, I heard that, too, that the ocean water was in the 70's now, though my sister just came home from a few days at Hampton Beach. She said the first 2 days the water was nice, but today it was really cold.

I lived in northern NV for 17 years and used to go to Lake Tahoe a lot. Loved swimming there. No slime or nasty things. Water was always crystal clear but cold. And the scenery was awesome.

Southeastern, NH(Zone 5b)

Now I usually never complain that the pool is too warm, but last night we went in and it really wasn't refreshing.. We checked the temp. and it was 89F!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Wow. Solar blanket??

South Hamilton, MA

Ocean water north of Cape Cod is cold. sort of ice water here until Labor day.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

I'd order some ice blocks to throw in the pool

Southeastern, NH(Zone 5b)

Ice is a good idea! We put the hose in and it came down a little It was at 87 today. It was from the three day stretch of heat. It was 103 friday, with heat index making it feel like 110! Thurs was almost as hot and so was yesterday. Today was much nicer!

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Hey Memory!!!!! Can all purslane be eaten???

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

there is a discussion at the new place about that.. there is one that looks like purslane and is not .. and poisonous

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Good thing didn't put any in my salad then, huh?

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

oh and because of that thread.. I figured out what I bought as portulacca.. is an ornamental purslane ... so Celeste & Louise.. and whoever else was looking at the container I gave Celeste.. it's purslane.. too bad the critters ate a bunch I planted already.. guess that one is good

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

So it's hardy Allison?

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)
