Greenhouse plus grow lights?

Tucson, AZ(Zone 9b)

I am getting ready to start seeds indoors for my fall garden. I have the Jump Start grow light kit and my question is, do I need to use both greenhouse dome AND the grow light at the same time? I can find information about one or the other but not both together. My thought is that I will use the plastic cover initially with the grow light up a foot or more, and then once things sprout, I'll take the greenhouse lid off and move the light to within a couple of inches. Please advise if I'm off base.

Thanks,

Mindy: I always start my seedlings under the domes (and lights). You are correct--as soon as your seedlings sprout, take off the dome and get the lights down withing a couple of inches of your seedlings. Unless you have a variety of seed that requires darkness to germinate, sounds like you're right on track.

Mindy, what is the Jump Start grow light kit and where did you buy it? How many inches long is the light? What is included in the kit?

Hi Miles,

I bought it from Amazon, here's the link:

I give it two thumbs up. Easy to put together, very reasonably price, and does the job. I've planted everything out except the tomato seedings. I need to start hardening them off this week for planting by Sept 1.
