Garden Projects #6

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

she needs a hammerdrill and then can use the lake stones:)

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

She ships her lamps all over.Galleries wont pay that kind of shipping.
I take it you LOVE your hammerdrill. SIL gave DD a Sawzall for xmas. Its not been quiet since.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

:) yup - making a large stone bird bath now

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

You are so creative, Bill. I love doing stuff like that. I don't have a hammerdrill. Are they expensive?

I just don't know when I would ever find the time. Seems all my time is taken up with work and keeping up the gardens, taking care of Dad, dogs, etc. Lots of things have been going on here this month, and I've had little time for my gardens, though I did get a lot of weeding done. The beds I did look great. Now I just have to put the mulch/fertilizer on them. Wish I had done that earlier this year. I feel good about what I got done today. I need to get the posts put in for my birch arbor, but I can't find my post hole digger. Might have to break down and buy a new one. Then I'll find the old one.

Yes, we did have a nice visit, Jo....sorry I missed you, Debi! My niece took me to Borglum's....now, she wants me to visit next June so she could see the iris in bloom! Great lamps your friend makes, Jo!

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

Sorry I missed you too Robin, I didn't think you were going to make it.

Thomaston, CT

I know....my brother's cardiologist let him go last minute.....my niece, who was in CT taking what she wanted from her Gram's estate, drove my SIL back to Rochester. My brother didn't get to my house until after 11 because he needed another prescription....anyway, it worked out because Laurie & her Mom had to exit the Thruway due to a gas leak....by the time we went through, it had reopened....we got to the house only 15 min. after they did.....

Here's some inspiration from the National botanic gardens. A less elaborate version of this would look smashing in my yard.

About 10 ft lower would suffice here. Interesting structure.

Here's a closer look at the wire baskets inside the arch.

I love the coleus they used!

Lexington, MA(Zone 6a)

Yeah, I'd love to do one big column or arch with annuals like these.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

clever

Huron, OH(Zone 5b)

very nice!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

you never know.. that might end up in my garden someday!!

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

saw something like that at the maine coastal botanical garden today although not as large.

Lexington, MA(Zone 6a)

Must be the new thing. I'd put mine in a somewhat modern looking pergola at the top of the hill overlooking the would be waterfall that i also don't have.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Got my echis and heucheras planted from the co op, need more heuchs

Thomaston, CT

Ha....I need more echies!

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

I need more time!

This past weekend I got a lot of weeding done and put down some mulch/fert on one of the weeded beds and woodchips in paths. Looking good, but I have so much more to do. I have been a working fiend this week, it seems, at my job.

love to see how it fills in.. amazing.. did you direct sow your BESV?

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

No way did I direct sow. I couldnt even get any to germ in Feb in the house.
I have other plans for that trellis next spring.
I bought a plant. I doubt I will get ant reseeding.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

soak em in peroxide before sowing.. seems to help.. mine are just starting to bloom.. took forever this year

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Mine are still not blooming.
Looks wonderful Jo!!!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

just see buds forming now

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

WOW what a difference

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

BES has gone crazy. I really hate to yank it but will need the space for a clem in a couple of weeks
The plant was expensive.
I have trouble with fussy MG 's anyway.Except Grampa Ott. I realize its a different variety but I may never see the end of that purple MG.
Sorry all you MG nuts out there. My garden plan just doesnt have room for anything that aggressive and climbing.Learned the hard way.
Pirl says the MG seeds are viable for 85 years so this season wont end them.

South Hamilton, MA

Great project & happy that it was sucessful.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Very nicely filled in. What a transformation!

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I love transformed places. I think there was a thread that dealt with garden changes from season to season.Dont know what happened to it. It might not have been on Northeast.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Maybe it transformed??? ^_^

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)
