Garden Projects #6

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Thanks, you guys. Richard was a good person under his drug habit, and always willing to do for others. I knew he was headed for this if he couldn't get his addiction under control. Some people can and some can't. But I know he's with God now and at peace.

There are good people who just cannot shake their addictions. Have known a number of them and have been to too many wakes.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

so sorry about Richard .. Karen.. hugs & kisses to you and family

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

sorry to hear about your friend karen

Lexington, MA(Zone 6a)

Karen, sorry to hear about your friend Richard. My sympathy. Addictions are like cancer, truly a disease process that claims too many victims. Please keep the professionals and self help groups devoted to saving lives in your heart as well.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Hugs, Karen. You were a good friend to try to help him.

"There are good people who just cannot shake their addictions" aint that the truth! I'm so sorry for your loss Karen but admire you for looking past the drug addiction and seeing the good. Sometime people are so wrapped up in what the person is doing...that they forget there is someone good inside screaming for help. And yes, some cannot beat their addiction. I learned along time ago....you either sober up, or die. Those are really the only two endings and it has to be the addict who chooses. I'm sorry for your loss, at least you have the comfort of knowing he is at peace now.

Thanks for all your kind words, everyone. It means a lot to me.

Wow! I really love those....the beach rocks are awesome!

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

and here is a new purchase last weekend - a 7 ft tall antique granite mail box post - yup used the hammer drill for the bracket - at the stone yard it took three of us and heavy equipment to get the the thing into my wife's exterrra - it took me 30 minutes and 2 12x6's to slide it out - weighs about 700 pds if i believe the guys at the stone yard. should be fun getting it into the hole and up straight.

me too marilyn - i really like mixing the different color rock - i want to make about 5 more for another idea i have - i know where the rocks are:)

The granite post is a beauty, too....you'll need the neighborhood to raise it!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

oh yeah kids.. just try and play mailbox baseball!!... love the beach stones

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Love the rocks, Bill. What are you holding them up with??

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

LOVE the granite post

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes - very nice too.

I have a nice piece of thick marble - flat, over one inch thick and about 4 X 3 ft. Have to make something out of it.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

thx all

i think i will be alright getting the stone up alone - just slide it in the hole and wedge it up with small stones and then cement it in place - at least that is the plan

the mail box is a baseball bat resilient one:)

i used copper wire to hold them up victor - you may remember that essence of the tree had a similar style they were selling a few years back.

small table for the patio

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Would look a bit odd. It's white. Also have a table there already.

New Hampshire, NH(Zone 5b)

You're always finding creative ways to work with rocks, Bill. Nice job!

South Hamilton, MA

So the mailbox smashers have been visiting your neighborhood? They have not been around here for awhile.

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Nice project with the beach rocks, Bill, and I love the post. Don't kill yourself getting it put in. No mailbox smashers here to date. Not sure if they can get ours. Right next to a telephone pole, so would be hard to do it. They'd have to stop in front of it. We've had is smashed by the snowplowers, though.

Now that our large mailbox rusted out, the current one maynot be as tempting. Harder for large iris packages to fit, however. heh heh!

Hey Bill.
There is a program on Planetgreen channel. University made an obelisk out of cement. They used the old Egyptian method of Sand displacement to get the thing into the ground.
Might be a method for you to consider. LOL

Nice rocks BTY.
I thought they were drilled and threaded onto something and upright in the garden instead of hanging.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

thanks again - i think i'll be ok setting it up as long as it gets close to vertical after sliding it in place - just use a pry bar and rocks to get it standing up and square and dump in the concrete mix. may haave to look at that sand displacement just for fun though jo.

we have had mailbox bashers just after high school graduation - i complete coincedense i am sure..............

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

What are they hanging from, Bill? I would like to do something like that but am reluctant to hang it from the fascia board.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

They are on an arbor i built with a grape vine going up one side and a clem up the other - i have cheap hd hanging things the rocks and thick copper wire is hanging from - just used stainless steel dry wall screws - i will say these rocks are heavy for the hangers.

under the rocks the copper wire is curled in a spiral so the rocks do not fall and at the top it is in a loop with the wrie twisted about 4 or 5 times so it looks nice - next batch i will heat up the copper wire to work with it easier - it was hard to get work with because it was so thick. there are some needle nose plier marks i could do without although i am probably the only one who would notice.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I did notice that, but did not want to mention. ^_^

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

impossible!! :)

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

LOL. I really Admire your creativity, wha. Love the post, too!!!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Nice work Bill!

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

Bill you never cease to amaze me!

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Wonderful workmanship. Jewelry, earring for your arbor.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Good way of putting it, Jo! I know Bill is the earring type.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

That actually is how beaded earrings are made. Bill could string and objects and put a drilled stone at the ens.Wait -go- back-. Start with a drilled stone strung on copper thats twisted ,then string any obhect .Voi'la.
Robindog and I had a great visit yesterday.

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

I missed Robin? I was thinking about her yesterday too.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

it did not surprise me jo that you thought of earings:) you have a great one the Bud the stone cow at louise's loved.

i think of them as hanging cairns myself

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Actually that was my first thought. GF makes clay Cairn lamps and uses lake stones as molds.
