Hi,
I just planted some Golden Nanas (Golden Arborvitae), the are on a drip line. They started out looking ok, but now they are dying off. The older ones I have, I think there are 10 of them, are doing alrigh but the last three I planted, well they don't look like they are long for this world. It is quite warm right now could that be the problem, the others were planted at the end of March.
Thanks in advance,

Golden Nanas (Golden Arborvitae) not doing well.
I would check to make sure your drip line is watering each plant evenly. With them being newly planted shrubs and your in a hot area, I suspect it's a water issue. Get your hands down in the soil after you have run your drip line and see how far down you've actually watered.
How long and how often to do you water them?
I agree on checking the drip system to make sure you don't have any clogged emitters or something like that. The other thing to consider is that the ones that were planted more recently are going to need more water than ones that were planted a longer time ago and have had a little more time to get established, so it's possible that your watering frequency is adequate for the older plants but not the newer ones. Lastly, in a climate like yours summer is the absolute worst time to plant anything so even if you do everything right, sometimes the sun/heat are just too much for plants that didn't have a chance to get established before the heat set in. My summers aren't quite as hot as yours, and I still have a much lower success rate with things that get planted in the summer vs other times of year.
Got'ya, little plants little roots need extra attention. Makes sense, the water is reaching older plants but not the babies with the unreaching roots. I was scared off by all the stuff on the ARID, DON'T OVER WATER! New plants need extra care especially the non-reaching out roots.
Thanks very much,
Great site with some great people,
